I agree with some democratic views, but I also agree with some republican views. It's like why the fuck do you decide where you stand before you've even heard the issue!!! I seriously cannot stand the political system in this country, and if I could afford to move out I most definatly would. It's like as soon as someone try's do to do something for "the greater good" they have to worry about losing votes because of stupid people. Just pisses me off to no end. Peace-

Re: Red States // Blue States

Hay Fred, I see you removed "this may stir up some debate" in the original post, and one reply later making reference to it and suddenly people found plenty to debate. I guess you were right after all!

Since this is no longer the humorous thread I thought it was meant to be here's my 1.5 cents.

It seems to me that anyone who thinks either party has all the right answers is either lacking in intelligence or ignorant. If you despise the two party system and still vote for either one, (or both) then your part of the problem. I know no one wants to throw their vote away, so I guess that's why we are stuck with what we have, but how else can we change the system if we won't change our vote?

Yes it was Washington, and if I'm not mistaken he also said "Political parties would create hopeless deadlocks in the political system" The dude had it right almost 200 years ago. AlmostSotck I get what you're saying about voters being part of the problem. From my standpoint the entire voting/party system needs a complete overhaul from many different aspects. There has never been a black president, woman president, jewish president, or catholic president(well one that lived). And the electoral college I believe was nessecary at one point, but even though we still have a lot of really stupid people in this country, all it does is make canidates work for those votes. It's never gonna change without a civil war or something along the lines of that. Maybe a political revolution through a voting strike, but there are way too many people who believe voting is sacred for that to happen. I personally believe being able to vote for your leaders is a great idea, just not in the way that we do it in this country, the way we do it here makes me wan to throw up. Peace-

Yes he was. In fact he said that political parties would eventually tear the country apart.

Civil War anybody?

Not likely...at least you wouldn't see me lining up to fight for some ridiculous civil war. The proposed split would be just fine by me in all honesty. Keep a no passport needed policy to go between the 2 and I really don't see much wrong with it. I would much rather be with the more liberal minded Canadians than with the conservatives in this country. But alas, that's never gonna happen.

As far as the two party system goes, well there is already a voting runoff system in place in several states, and this is a system that should absolutely go nationwide. No more "throwing away your vote" crap, and maybe we could actually get some greens or independents in higher office positions. Obviously this causes problems for some who like the power and control systems the way that they are, but as previously stated, our 2 party system is ludicrous and needs to be done away with in short order.

Re: Red States // Blue States

In the beginning, the winner of the presidential election became president, while the loser became vice president. On the whole, a good arrangment I think. Too bad they got away from it.

Re: Red States // Blue States

Yes there should be more greens/libertarians/etc... in more infulential position but that still follows the partisan line. You cannot run for any political office in this country unless you're a registered party member. And that means basically you stand for what the party stands for. I don't understand why we can't just have people who say "this is what I stand for, and this is what I plan to accomplish, and then actually do it." Not like the last election where it was primarily based upon "moral values" and fucking gay marraige. It's always the hot-topics like this and abortion and assisted suicide that get people rilled up, and you know why? Because all those issues have to do with religion, and this country is comprised of a whole hell of a lot of people who think that this is a christian nation. "In god we trust". Peace-

What if you are apolitical? I'm neither liberal or conservative probably in the middle but more like a moderate. As a former soldier, I served under Demo and Repub Presidents alike. Really did not care who was President or the Commander in Chief. All you care about is accomplishing the mission and taking care of your troops.

But both parties sure want my vote.

I always wonder about that as well. Why did it stop? Anyone know?

I think it was in the 1800's. Here's a good place to start:

From what I learned it did not work becuase they could never get along...Do you really think you would get along better with the guy you just competed against and perhaps hate or would you like to pick someone you knew you could work well with?

Well if you think about it whoever the vice president and president will be, they have both ran against each other in the primaries. Just look at the last election. John Kerry, and John Edwards were both taking a shot for the number 1 position.

Yes, but Kerry and Edwards were not of completely opposite political views as they would have been using the onld system.

Republican, Democrat - till I see evidence to the contrary, you're all sheep.

This freakin' voting for party-lines has got to stop. I voted for a Democratic Presidential candidate last election, for my own reason, other than that partisan crap you Democratic sheep would spew, but voted to keep the Republican Senators in my state, not because the Republican sheep convinced me. I also chose each other candidate on the ballot for research I did on each, no matter what Party they were from. I mean, am I the only one that is capable of doing this?

I understand I might sound pompous in that last assumption, but the way some of you blabber in here about each party, I really don't get that impression. It's like when I was in high-school, with the little cliques bickering against each other.
I concur.
