Intake and exhaust work may help, but unless you want the performance, its not worth it. I doubt you will make up for it at the pump. I'd take that one guys advice and keep it maintained and drive nicely.

Build on hold until I get a good paying job, either in school or once I get out. At that time a full tear down and complete rebuild should be in order.
