Re: What happened to the 350?

well, my haynes manual refers to it as a 325, and Advance Auto Parts refers to it as a 323

Re: What happened to the 350?

The old 327's will undoubtably eat a 350 for lunch, in my own personal opinion so will a 283 after all the only real big difference is the stroke. So it will wind up faster and harder.

283 stock = 3.875 bore x 3.000 stroke
350 stock = 4.000 bore x 3.484 stroke

I was talking about my little 60s era 327 not my 5.3.

The conversion is 323 ci...but people just call it a 327

Yeah, those were pretty sweet... wish they could squeeze as much juice out of the 5.3. But, I guess you might actually be able to, if all the emissions crap was gone.

Re: What happened to the 350?

If you look at the head design on the Gen III engines, it is ripe for some serious high performance upgrades.
The engine itself stands up pretty well and I have only seen 2 with any mechanical problems.
1 was a police pursuit camero that ran hot and self destructed and the other was an 05 Yukon fresh off the transporter with a broken timing chain.

Re: What happened to the 350?

Think the last small block was actually used in the vans, and they are using the new design now. Still a popular crate engine though. The newer engines are some cleaner and more efficient, important these days.

Re: What happened to the 350?

The 350 was still sold for the export trucks as a factoy option back in 2000, on the c/k truck platform still also sold as exports. Don´t know if you heard but the old body style is still being manufactured in Mexico and sold as a flatbed HD

Re: What happened to the 350?

We have a C/K style pickup we ordered at work. It has a 350 in it, and it has a utility box on the back. It is a 2002. You can still get them BUT they have to be special ordered, and you have to know which strings to pull!
