Lugs spinning, wheels stuck, HELP!! - Page 2

If that were feasible we would have tried it, although my cousin was able to crawl under and up to the back of it, and he tried knocking the lug loose. maybe it's possible...what do you mean I might have to trash the rim??? Is there another way? If I'm only going to have the problem with that one lug it will be okay, worst case scenario, I've lost one good bolt hole and have 4 left.

we use the gun first with a torque stick....you could hold the trigger down all day with the torque stick on the end of the gun and it wont go past the torque spec...then we lower the car and use a torque wrench to make sure its torqued.

That's it for tonight. I can't get behind it with a saw, I'd have to take off the entire brake assembly....which is what I'm doing anyway, but still how would I get the wheel off of the brake?

I just asked my dad about this and his exact words were "We'll do this the right way, and we will not do, what we did to the other lug nut" and I walked away slowly, whistling.

im not positive on this, its just an idea, but what if you got the whole rotor assembly off and wored on it from behind? you could cut the back of the stud off then and then the rest will come out trough the front of the rim. right? the stud has to start some place...

like disconnect the a-arms and stering linkage and shit so everything that is connected to the wheel will come off then you can place hte wheel face down and you can have clear access to the back and you can try to gain access to the back of the stud(s) from there.

ya but in order to do that you have to get the brake off. How are you going to get the brake off if the rim is in the way.

pretty sure. All of the brakes I have done at work. The wheel has had to come off, then the caliper, then we can take off the rotor.

i mean like if you seperate the rotor from the car, so you can work at the rotor from the back side, like even the hub that the rotor mounts to, take everything off seperate that whole thing from the car.

I was thinking of starting where my cousin left off. We had the car on a jackstand on the driver's side already so the chassis was partially lifted, I could use my new ramps, etc and then we jacked up the passenger's side as high as two wheel widths, ans we pushed some old tires underneath the front for saftey, like bricks. If you can get enough light under there you see where the lug comes in and you need a thin long chisel or screwdriver and a hammer to punch the lug out of place. This has to be harder than it looked. Because he couldn't do it. But it's worth a shot.

I'd rather take the wheel off, from the front where I have more space to work with. If there isn't then I'll be the Headless Horseman for halloween.

if i was close enough to you I would just tell you to come to the shop and id torch it off for you. Ive done it plenty of times without fucking the rims up. (sometimes we have to do it on certain wheel locks when people loose their keys)

you didnt try that after you cousin said he couldnt do it? yea i would try that then, you can get chisels from any hardware store. might wanna buy some sort of sharpener because it might get dull before you get trought it.

BTW, where are the stud beginings at? like with my idea of removing everything attached to the wheel, like just discconnect the a-arms, and the stering linkage and brake line and now (i think) the wheel should be off the car with other shit attached to it. but now you can pick up the wheel and set it face down on a table and work it it from behind, but i dont know if you cna gain access to the studs from behind like that, there is that steel plate or hub thig whatever surrounds the studs. the 'hub' is 2 peices right? how would you get the back of the hub off? the wheel would have be off ? i donno i am by no means a mechanic. i wouldnt even trust me to change brake pads with out supervision (or at the very least a very extesive how to manual).

but korndog is prob right on this, it was just an idea to go in trough the back since you said you didnt wanna mess up your rim. like i said im no mechanic, i wouldnt even try some of this you ppl do to your cars with out someone with me that has done it before.

Well I was going to go with the idea of taking the whole front end off but I had to go and sprain my wrist carrying a mattress. But yeah that sounds like the best bet right now, since we can take stuff off and look at what needs to be replaced for short term.

Now this is what I call a f***** project!
