What brands are the best? Iam willing to pay $300 at the most. Or if i get two different ones to protect against for all the guns that police have.
So let me get this stright.. You were ticketed $300, and got away with it. BUT, you're now willing to use that same $300 to try and prevent any more tickets rather than just saving the money.

But anywho, to get back on topic... I bought this cheap $80 Whistler radar from Wal-Mart and it works wonders. Everytime a cop drives by with his radar on, it goes off immediately. Gives me at least a 1/2 mile warning before I reach him. It's not the best, nor is it the most high tech. But it does the job for me. I'm not an excessive or constant speeder, so I really could care less about having the top of the line detecter. But we all have our moments ya know, so it does come in handy at times.

I would though, suggest that you slow down and stop running red lights. I can understand if you're in a hurry or what not, but it's still wrong and against the law at that. Just don't make it a repetitive thing.

As for the flip up license plate idea, come on. Like you guys have never pondered ways to make your car stealth? Shoot, I rarely ever speed (and when I say rarely, I mean rarely) and even I've thought of doing something like that. Especially after seeing that movie "The Transporter." That whole flip around license plate idea was just genious.

I was thinking about the idea of doing that for a while since the 3rd gen Camaro plate already flips down so you can use your key to get into the hatch.. just need something that will pop it down and have to rig it to do it on command.

i agree most radar detectors are pretty much the same up to a certain point then there are some that cover other bands and such for newer radar guns and stuff but most agencies wont have those but IMO they are all a waste of money....the radar gun isnt always transmitting a signal....a lot of times until you are in the officers sight and then its too late. buy whatever you want but its not gonna help that much.

My Monte is too aerodynamic for radars to detect it.. plus already shined/waxed it yesterday.. its black and made out of titanium so radar bounces off.. GOODLUCK WITH YOUR SPEEDING TICKETS, SUCKERS!

Re: Radar???

I was talking about running red lights i mostly meant crossing intersections when yellow signal changes to red. And where i live they just mail you a pic with a ticket. ($130 can) . Also i go thru red lights when after a stop and there is no cars around at all sometimes at night (small intersections)

By the way I am a very good driver as well.

And I belive getting the radar is well worth it. Because almost all my cars arent very leagal at all and cops here are dicks. I dont wanna give em a reason to stop me at all and give 3 tickets at once. I have a few friends that are truck drivers and when they go thru the US thats a huge problems because sometimes they go as fast as 90 mle per hour down the hill and not because they are poor drivers (driving a truck is not like driving a small car)

I remember you saying that a while back in the other thread. But the past 10 or more times I've driven by a cop, my radar detector went of. Starting down from K1 right up to K9. Gradually increasing while I get closer and closer. Only thing was, was that they were driving too. They weren't sitting on the side of the road. They were going the opposite directing I was. Which is why I got confused because I remember you saying that the radars arent always on. So, are all the cops here driving around with their radars constantly on or what?

Re: Radar???

I have a Cobra 11 Band. Saved my ass a bunch of times. Well worth it in my opinion.

And with the license plate thing. They have kits for it, you just have to do some searching.

Re: Radar???

radar has saved me many of times too.... it won't save you in a situation where your the only car on the road and the cop is parked waiting but in a case where there are more cars on the road and the cop is gunning them you will pick him up way before he sees you..... as far as the license plate deal goes.... if you just don't want the camera to pick up your # they make clear plastic sticker deals that make it impossible for a camara to read....

Re: Radar???

I did some homework and learned that the best protection against the photo radar is clear coat on your rear plate number (remove the front one) They can hardly be read by camera when theres lotsa clear and its polished to perfection. (covers will work too). Also even if you get a ticket just throw it in the garbage, because they dont know if you even receive it. When they call you to court its super hard to prove that you were speeding or running the red. (technology and the radar cant go to court)

Then, having the front plate is bad (they use it to aim), because camaros are slick cars! (works on any radar)

90 % of radars can be detected even with cheap detectors. The best way is to jamm them VIA active jammers which are not leagal.

The other 10% of radars are lasers. There are detectors but they are sorta expensive.

Also the radars that the police use are crap and can be innacurate when operated the wrong way. There are so many things that can go wrong. It takes some experience to do it. That fact only adds to your defence when in the court.

i hope its helpful.

Re: Radar???

I have read many threads about the clear coat on the license plate idea and everyone that has tried it said it did not work.

And what do you mean technology can't go to court. They have picture evidence with your car and the light (most of the time, sometimes the light doesnt show).

My radar detector picks up radar, laser, spectre, and VG2 systems. I usually pick up the radar signals at least a mile away from the cop (a very low signal of course but it still picks it up). The laser only really works if your with a group of cars because the beam is only on when they point it at you and pull the trigger, so you can really only beat that if he is gunning cars infront of you and you happen to catch the laser that is meant for another car. Oh and for those of you who dont know what spectre and VG2 are.....they are radar detector detectors. Lets the cops know if you have a detector. My detector also picks up other peoples detectors if im likr right infront or behind them since they leak out a really small signal.

Re: Radar???

first off u dont want a radar , u want a radar detecter unless u are trying to clock the cops and give them tickets, and second all detecters arent the same at all. if u get those 50 and 120 dollar ones well u get what u pay for...now if u wanna really be able to pick up signals from a mile away..pop, instant radar, laser (from around the corner) and be able to program new types of signals into it so it wont never be outdated, then fork up the 300 bucks and get a damn passport 8500. best on the market, and i havent been pulled over since i had it, unlike the 3 times i got caught with the damn cobra...(75 bucks) u dont trust 10 dollar tires so dont trust a 60 dollar radar detecter. oh and valentine sucks ass dont get that crap u will be pissed with that dvd sized detecter..= gay...yes i said gay again lol

Re: Radar???

no im saying i had a cobra, but on the way to atlanta for the gathering my boys picked up cops before i did by a long shot, and they also were picking up radar from around corners when mines did not. the passport murdered the cobra and its range is way longer. the guy who has me handcuffed over the hood in my sig pulled his radar gun out and let us test the range of the 2 because we brought some with us to sell them because we are a dealer for passport, and a guy wanted to know how much better they were then the ones u could get out of walley world. and once again it sucked against the passport. and also u can get new signals put into the passport 8500 so when the cops come up with something new u dont have to get a new detecter that picks up the new signal u just add it to the passport....sweet!! not to mention i got pulled over on the way back and the other 2 guys that had passports that were with me slowed down way before i figured out i got clocked. need not say i got a ticket and they didnt. smh. so now i own a passport as well and its paid for itself 4 times over
