Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Fiat 131 1980's Rally Monte Carlo

Even thou the comp is almost over I finaly found some spare time to pick where I left. Since my son is of to the sea side I have a little time frame (three weeks) to do something before I move to the new appartement so I might even complete the engine and decals in this three weeks time.

Well let's get to bussiness. I have picked some electrical connectors in order to rebuild intakes on this one. Plastic ones that came with kit are ugly and wrong so I have to go from step one.

I have drilled the engine and fit small rods as support for this connectors, first of all I glued the 2,5mm ones to represent first part and now I have to scratch build separation part (look at the reference picture) and then fix those larger 4mm ones with mesh on top. Mesh is from MFH and is intended for F1 kit but they fit nicely on this one to.
Check out those black plastic intakes from kit....

and this is the real thing, note that separation part, it will be.....hmmm...difficult

And for the end I drilled holes for fuel lines that will be made out of fishing line.
Not to much of the progress but at leas I started.

I am sorry that I couldn't make this one in time for the comp, but at least I will finish it.

Thanks for watching.

Fantastic subject, really enjoyed reading thru this. I like how you tackled the intakes, great idea. The painted hood with all the dust on it looked all to familiar is I have dropped far too many wet parts in my day. Keep up the good work and thanks for including pictures of the real engine.

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Fiat 131 1980's Rally Monte Carlo

A bit of a progress, molded lines are not my favorite so I took them of and replace with real wire.

And the end resoult, I still think of putting another one next to that red one

Unfortunatly spare wheel is solid plastic one and despite my great effort it still doesn't look to realistic
Still a lot of work in that trunk.

And I finaly made the intakes and that separation part, a lot of work left there to make it look good, but I am geeting there....slowly

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Fiat 131 1980's Rally Monte Carlo

I finnaly painted the hoods, even thou the body was standing painted for eight months you can't realy tell the difference, next of are decals, I am still testing different clear coats because decals are very fragile, I will get Glasurit's top 2K clear today and test it because plain acrylic clear damages the decals.

Some parts are added to engine room and body is tested to chasis, fits good for now

Wheels are washed with MM chrome black.

Edit:

Phil could you change the title, remove that contest name since I didn't finish it in time, thanks

Too bad, you couldnīt make it to the contest-deadline. This build would have truely brightenend up the field of contest-entries!

Iīm excited, how this build turns out. Having your other past builds in my mind, I expect greatness!

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Fiat 131 1980's Rally Monte Carlo

Small update, I have got the 2K clear and test it on decal that won't be used, scrap part was painted the same way as the body.
Clear is fantastic, doesn't damage very fragile decal and gives fantastic shine, this is not even polished.

Rest of the wires are added to trunk but I still need to paint those red wires in black (I ran out of black wire )

Some wires are added to engin room and it is just waiting for engine to fit in.

Engine it self need fuel pump and injection system and will be done shortly (of course I need to put the mesh on intake trumpets).

And paint those distributor conectors in black.

Re: Fiat 131 Rally Monte Carlo 1980

I'm loving that engine!

And I finally got around to fixing up the thread title, sorry for the delay. Maybe there is an aftermarket tobacco decal sheet you could substitute and enter next years comp.
