yeah that is most likely the going rate . When i built my 406 that i told you about earlier a think that i gave 250 for the block and pistons ,rods, crank shaft. It was the basic short block with everything but the heads or intake. I think i am telling you right that is that i gave $ 250 for the short block ,
. I would guess that your right on the price because that was a few yrs back. All in all that 400 or 500 hundred does not sound all that bad if consider that gas is $3.00 a dam gallon .The sad part is that all of us
gear jammer really suffer . but the hell with it we will make it some how we always do.Hey dude good luck with yourself and with whatever you do in life chat at you later.

That is assuming you mean a 4.00" bore block and a 4.00" crank.

I will be running that set-up, minus the .030 bore. 402 cubes for me.
the 400 sbc is a 4.125" bore with a 3.75" stroke, boring it .030 over makes 406.

Yes I am aware of 406 being 30 over . If i am not mistaking the first 400 that i had was 35 over and maybe 283 rods or somthing else strange that made 415 cu. inches. maybe I could make a phone call today and find out for sure

I think he was referring to the stock 400 block and crank with a .030 overbore which is 4.125" x 3.75" bored to 4.155" which yields 406.5 cubic inches. At least that's the standard combination for a 406 SBC.

I don't think the stock small blocks can be ground enough to accept a 4" stroke without cutting into the bottom of the water jacket or crashing the rods into the cam even with the reduced base circle cams and undersize rod journals. I could be wrong. Have been before.
