Actually it picks up certian frequencies of light or something. Occasionally when the sun is at a correct position, the siren detector will go off. Kinda useless IMO, but whatever...

my drivers ed instructer was talking with the class and he mentioned he had one . i was wondering so talked to him about it. he said it was called the valintine 1 he said it was the best on the maket i am unsure any of the other details maybe you can search the name and get them form liek bestbuy . i belive he said he got his from radio shack

What kind of messege is that to new drivers?

That is really funny that a driving instructor has a radar detector. Hell if I was a driving instructor I'd have one.
