My favorite Grand Prix on AF. Does it still look stock on the outside?

Have you looked at the weights of most of the Ferrari's built these days? 3500+lbs isn't uncommon for those cars. Most 'Uber' Cars these days are in the 3800-4200lbs range. Although they've got highly sophisticated powerplants to get the heft moving, they're still way fat. Fat or not, I'd still wouldn't mind one or two.

That's because the N/A versions aren't the same beast as the Boosted versions. Something to do with intake or headgaskets aren't all that great on the N/A versions. If I recall correctly.

The only N/A 3800 that was reliable and quick was the series 1, the series two is doggy and leaks like a sieve after 50K miles. The reason the Supercharged version didn't leak as much is because they used metal gaskets instead of the shitty reusables/rubbers that the N/A's used. The series 1 supercharged L67 engines on the other hand were plagued with problems. So: Series 1 N/A > Series 2 N/A Series 1 S/C < Series 2 S/C And Series 3 L32(supercharged) > ALL Except Series 1 N/A JJ |

Congrats! Wow 120mph trap, very nice!
My car has 347whp + whatever I gained from adding a little compression, maybe another 5-7whp. My gains were pretty much all from putting the car on a 200-300lb diet.

What does horsepower ratings have to do with how good an engine is? I got 31mpg in my 89 LeSabre going to philly and that thing had more than enough balls to get going quick enough, my old man got 28 on the highway in his demo that had the series 2. And it was 165 horsepower not 170. Ask anyone who's ever worked on any of the engines, they'll tell you the best GM 3.8 was the series 1 hands down, no questions asked, dont even try to argue the 3800 with me, you wont win. |

Have you seen the new 3900 Series 3 engines they're putting in the GXP G6's? 245 horsepower stock, it's basically the 3800 bored out a bit. All i could say when i saw it was WOW. |

There is also a well-known drag racer by the name of Harry Doolittle who runs a Firebird with a 3800 series 2 N/A in the NHRA stock eliminator class. Last time I checked he was in the 11's....N/A.... ![]() Okay I dug up a nice read about him and his car. Here it is. http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...0;t=001781;p=1 Or, if you just want quick proof....Look on the top of the hood here. Clearly shows "L36" ![]() http://www.nhra.com/2003/events/race...k/photo16.html Last edited by camaroincal; 09-08-2005 at 10:29 AM. |

Re: Nearly raced an 86' ferarri testarossa and got a new PB
The RWD 3800 Series 2 is not the FWD series 2, and yes they are capable of big numbers, i know a recipe that could get me a 700horsepower series 2 N/A 3800.
They do leak like a siev, do you have any idea how many of these intake jobs i have to warranty for people every day? This includes the 3.1,3.4, and the 3.8... And those are only the ones that are still under factory warranty 3/36,000 miles. It gets worse as they get more miles on them. Lets continue our discussion in pm's from here out though. Edit: I'm not saying the 3800 is a bad engine over all, imo, it's one of GM's best, just some are better such as the series 1. |
