Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
Today in N.C. Indiana it was $2.48 Suday, Monday it went to $2.68 gal for the cheap stuff. Today it is $3.59 for the same cheap shit that came out of the nossel five days ago. I filled both cars and four 5 gal cans Sunday. But in no way will it last till the price drops.LOL!
I'll probley see $4.50 a Gal by my weekend. Its like it some contest where they just keep uping the price all day. But I still drive , and I'm sure you all will drive too. So lets use it up, quick! LMAO. The price of EVERTHING is going up, just wait and seee. |

Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
I work at a gas station as my college job.
THis is for 89 Octane with the 10% ethanol which makes it the cheapest blend with all the subsidies: Sun: $2.59 Monday: $2.65 Tuesday: $2.89 Today : $3.19 That's a 23% increase over a period of 4 days! If things stabilize around here it won't be too bad. However, you may see a serious shock in the economy if things go to $4/gal. Gasoline has such an inflationary effect on everything and when a major economy input doubles in a matter of a month, it's not good. This will underscore the fact that refinery capacity needs to be addressed. Companies have not built any new ones because as our fellow user in his Economics courses is probably learning that you operate efficently near capacity when marginal revenue = marginal costs. At my average fill up of 13 gallons, it will cost me $208/mo to fill up my tank at $4. My buddy who I work with bought a Dodge ram and with his 35 gallon tank, his fill ups will cost $140 or $560 a month! Yikes!

Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
It's not Bush's fault. We need to kick the speculators out of the market and let pure supply demand take force.
It's not the time to be capitalizing on this market right now.

Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
Well, we are at an all time real and nominal high. The record adjusted for inflation was $3.11 set back in 1981.

Re: Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
Due to our system of capitalism and free enterprise, we'll never have gas prices as low as the countries that have nationalized their oil fields and refineries. According to the American Petroleum Institute, in Texas, for example, approximately 40 cents per gallon is federal exise and state tax. Plus local entities probably get their share on top of that too.
Regardless, the government bears a burden. Other than tapping into the strategic reserves or removing the bar to regional gasoline distribution, maybe the taxes should be reduced or waived. My question is where did all that tax money go? It sure as hell did not go to improving the oil infrastructure such as making new refineries or renovation. And we are paying the price today. BTW - I firmly believe that the outrageous price hikes in certain regions is nothing but price gouging. Even the evening news was publishing the telephone number to the State Attorney General's office for complaints. ![]() Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 PCM, SLP Headers, 3.25 SC pulley, CAIT GMAF, 2.5 DP/Hi-Flow CAT, u-bend delete, 160 TS, ZZP Stage 1 72mm TB, TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 103, Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt, Nitto NT555R Drag Radials 1/4 ET: 13.210 sec. @ 104.490 mph 0 - 60 ft: 1.945 sec.

Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
I heard the UK has been paying $6 a gal for a long time now. And it is all about Politics here is something i read last year. http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0111-01.htm
Its all about who's a millionaire. All the proffits lining CEO's pockets and Presidents of-shore accounts in Aruba. Its just not right! Minimum wage is an all time low, compared to the cost of living. If our Govnt expects everyone to go to work then they need to stop the inflating price our food, fuel and supplies. Exxon in the first quarter this year Made $5 billion in 'Proffit'. I wondered where all my money went, LOL! Its just funny Bush Sr. done the same thing in the early 90's w/Gulf War. I guess Jr. has a model to plan by. I just feel sorry for all those people down south who hav nothing. Here we are typing away, not a care in the world, and most of them dont even hav a drink of water or some food to eat. Their homes, cars, personal belongings, everthings gone and the ends not even in sight. |

Wylie, was that $1.29/litre Canadian? If so, check my math: 1 gallon = 3 .785 litres = $4.88 $4.10 USD per gallon. Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
Yes i would be nice to personally go and help out with the mess. OK, maybe we're not all obliviuos to this evil catastrophe. A grave misfortune for us ALL.
What needs to be done is raising that whole 'under sea' level problem they hav, otherwise its just gonna flood some other time. I know its like thousands of acres, but if we can put a man in space, we sure as hell can elevate that geographic Location. Japan built and island just to put an airport on, anythings possible when you set you mind to it. |

Re: Aftermath of Katrina. How much for gas?
Bnaylor:
You are right on these taxes going to the wrong areas. That's why I laugh when they say they are cutting a program or implementing a tax to save/raise money. You know that money is going to help build a $230m bridge in Alaska or but a bronze statue of a Senator in his/her home town's new, Federally constructed park to guarantee an election. I firmly believe that price gouging is taking place, however at the market level. What happens is that ousiders who have a financial interest in oil buy it all up in anticipation of prices going up. This runup in prices is basically in IMO a huge bubble. You have people who go on TV back like in the dot-com days and preach that prices will hit $100. Then Joe day trader sees this and realizes that he can make $40/barrel on this stuff and buys it in hopes to sell it off. That removes supply for people who actually buy the oil to use it and drives prices higher. I also think that all the different blends of gasoline needs to be simplified in order to give companies the ability to say blend one type for a 10 state region instead of blending 10 types for a 4 state region.
