Re: Re: mechanic school
Quote:
(1) They told me I would get ASE certified if I completed their coarses, found out the long and hard way that was a lie. (2) They told me that we would get hands on experience split 50/50 with book work. WRONG! Ya we went out into the shop...some. When we did get to go into the shop it was on a limited time frame. I'll give you an example of what happened to me out in the shop. Ok, I know my way around under the hood needless to say. So we are all bunched up around a couple cars with the hood up and the teacher turns around and sees my hands in the engine compartment and goes all to hell. He went on talking about writting me up and shit, wouldnt even give me the chance to explain to him that I'll I was doing was checking the coil wire connection & rotor button because this particular car wouldnt start. (3) They said they had catering services delivering food to the school....they had overpriced vending machines. After $30k you would think that they could feed you something to eat. (4) They advertised this close relation ship with nascar and talked about how going to this school was opening a door for a pit crew job and all this other crap. They even said they had a pit crew training facility on campus that would be finished by the time I got there. Well the building they where reffering to was not only on someone elses property, they also didnt have shit to do with this building and the recruiters where just useing it to add on to their stockpile of bullshit. (5) They lied and lied and got more and more strict the longer I was there. You would think that you deserve to be treated as a person by attending something with a name such as nascar. Not to mention how fat you where making their pockets. They where all snobs, disrespectful, and full of shit. But when you take the tour and all the other stuff they are as nice as they can possibly be. They even fired one of their better teachers for being seen in the same bar as some students, mind you everyone was age. Once they get your money they could care less about you. I know if you go to nti there is like a 3 month trial period or something where if you dont like it you can turn around and leave. I'm sure the other uti campases are the same way. But let me tell you, everything changes after those few months.

tour experience
i had the chance, in high school, to take a tour of three places, UTI, lincoln tech, and triton community college to see their auto programs. It was from an autos class and was all in one day. I was actually thinking about going to one at that point. this all changed when we went to lincoln tech and students kept mouthing 'go to uti' to us behind the tourguides back. The same happened at uti for lincoln tech. there were no classes going on at the college when we got there, but it didn't look like it had the 'flash' of uti or lincoln tech. it seemed like nobody wanted to be where they were (at least at uti and lincoln, i don't know what the students at triton think). The college had almost everything uti had, there just wasn't a flashy tourguide and people revin engines whenever you walked through a shop. the point, if you aren't gonna be happy with where you're going cuz all of your options suck, might as well pay less for it, stick it through, get your certification, then actually go learn what you're doing.
