Re: Celica Intakes
Two cool statements caught my attention here...
Leveling Torque curve and Better fuel economy...are they related in any way? considering that is, leveling torque curve means that the motor is more efficient in burning gas.... BUt, wouldnt this be a consequential effect of other stuff too, than just an intake? @ most you can play w/ air temperature or something... but other than that, what is the method/logic used to find that these two facts are true? Yeah, I installed a shortram the first week I got my car... I used to think it would give me something like 33 mpg and 10 extra HP...heheh...:P |

Re: Celica Intakes
There's an article in import tuner mag once showing the graph made by K&N "Typhoon" intake (CAI w/ heat shield et al)...thats installed in an RX-8. On average it adds 3HP and 2.4 lb-ft trq... and theres some instances when the gain was up to 4 HP... Since its dynoed, that means the HP comes from the wheels then. But even so...its 4 HP for like what? $200 brand-name CAI?

Re: Celica Intakes
An intake is a good mod, but it is nothing amazing no matter what you do to it, unless you put a turbo after it. And on any car an intake can be different, I have a vid of a new civic getting dynoed with an injen SRI and it gained 6.2 hp and 5.7 ft. lbs tq. But one problem was even though the engine was warm, they had the hood popped and a fan on it, so it was colder of course. No one can make any guarantees on what an intake may do unless they are a perfect expert on a CERTAIN engine and that is the exact one discussed. Most people think intakes are so great cuz they had a 10 yr old filter in the stock one and then they went to performance intakes and got a huge gain. They may have got 20 hp, but their old filter could have been holding back 15 cuz of how dirty it was, so they only gained five and gained back 15 lost hp. There are too many factors to make any definite statements about all intakes on the market.

BTW vip, quick quest. I've been wanting a GT-S 2001 or 2003 for daily driving. What is a good initial engine-mod investment? is there anything I can do before going turbo (but also adds substantial power)? |

Re: Celica Intakes
I believe K & N guarantees it in certain suv's and trucks, but in bigger vehicles such as those any intake will add some mad hp because of how huge the engine is and how much of a difference it can make. On a 4 banger lil econo engine 6 hp is a great gain from an intake. Let alone 10.

The faster guys over at newcelica.org are running 14.7-14.8 stock. With Intake/unbolted exhaust they are running around 14.1-14.5. With drag radials one guy got 13.9 without the power fc. Add the power fc and people have gotten 13.5-13.7 (all of these times are with weight reduction of course). None of the faster guys have tried out ragnorak racing's new stuff. They just released a ported throttle body that showed an 8-10whp gain on the dyno with a quick tune on the pfc. They have an intake manifold in development that is port matched to the throttle body that is going to be released very soon. This should get us over the 200whp mark finally. FYI, the guy that ran 13.7 did that with 174whp.

number 1: Do we have to get a professional to tune a powerfc? number 2: Isnt 2002 version have a rev limiter thats less then the others? (could've sworn I saw this somewhere) number 3: what the heck is drive by wire? I checked out ragnorak stuff. Thats some expensive investment... but the cam/retainersprings/header/supercharger combo looks promising... you are talking about all this plus that intake manifold being over 200 whp, right? Is there any 7thgeners ever ran under 10? I know from toyotacelicaonline theres a 6 gen that does 9.*** And its body-frame is based on US spec-ST model....:P |

2: Yes, the 2002 has a lower rev limiter. But if you replace the ECU with the apex'i power fc, you can change the rev limiter to whatever you want it to be. 3: Drive by wire means that there is no throttle cable. The throttle is controlled electronically instead of with a cable.

Oh yeah.. forgot to add. The fastest 7th gen so far is 11.8 @ 127mph.

Re: Celica Intakes
That link on tuning tutorial looks like fun once you get the hang of it...
I can't believe how sophisticated the technology is. thats like...just typing in whatever you want your car to act like. Damn! cant get any geekier, but yeah if it gets me some leverage on speed, that'll do. Thanks a bunch. Why the hell did they change into drive by wire? if its electronically controlled, that means only a matter of time that some entity like apex'i to figure out how to tune thru a more advanced version of powerfc... |
