Re: are 5.7'z really fast?
I agree with the old school 327. I'm building a 1963 283 for my truck!

Here is my story for how fast a 5.7L is. my friend has a 94 s10 4.3 that has some work down like exhaust and suspension, my truck is stock 5.7 vortec. We were driving down one of our main roads in town and we were side by side. We pulled up to a light he was on my right side and a dakota r/t dakota pulls up w/ someone probably around 20 driving. He looks over and points at the road, and i look over at my friend and telling were going. As the light turns green we all punch it. I pull away from both throughout 1st gear and kept pullin away until about middle of 4th where i hit my brakes. My friend kept up with him until 3rd. At the end i beat the r/t by atleast 3-4 cars and my friend by a lot.

Re: are 5.7'z really fast?
A 6 popper is an economy motor a 8 is not!!!My 94k1500 has a 350 with a chip & pipes .I can pull my 5th wheel at 80 or 45. I can smoke the tires well into 2nd gear.(31s)I can take most cars on the road. But its a truck!!!I have a 83 3/4 ton k with a punched 400 that makes about 400 hp,But I dont drag race it I pull my drag car to the track & do my racing on the track where there will be no fag exusess of why they lost to me !!!!As far as the 327 or 283 motors they are much shorter stroke than the 350 & will rev quick also great low end power .But in the end the big motor ALLWAYS wins in my book.

I have a 97 sierra with a 4.3 in it. I've taken alotta 350's from the start
before i turboed it. Ford,Chevy, and Dodge.I'e beat a 300z,a 240sx, and an IS300. I like the 350, it can take a beating!! But as far as speed, in my opinion the 4.3 is faster. The 5.7 is for hauling or towing. |

Re: are 5.7'z really fast?
Ill hook a chain to ANY 4.3. Turbo or not & pull your tiny little toy bumper off ANY DAY!

Gentlemen... hook up some flatbed trailers to a couple of trucks
(of course one of them being your Chevy), put something real heavy on it and go find a steep grade! That's how you race a truck! |

Get a Cyclone. Fastest pickup truck ever built. Case closed.

Unless you do some serious mods, I wouldn't run around challenging even moderately fast cars at the Stoplight Grand Prix. I have a '97 Z71 with the 350, fuel injection, K&N FIPK and Gibson cat-back. It runs great and I love the truck, but it's no drag racer.
If you want to race people in a truck, get a GMC Syclone or a Ford Lightning. I just sold my Syclone before moving to Maine and it was a fast truck. Many owners of late model Corvettes, F-bodies and Mustangs have held their heads in shame after challenging the Syclone
