Re: breaking an apartment lease?
Guaranteed your former neighbor is not getting away with not paying. Plus he definatly didn't get his security deposit back which at least in my case is no small chunk of change($3000 for my beat ass studio apartment in PA). Just because he trashed the place and left doesn't mean he got away. If they have all his information he will be found simple as that. Get dragged to small claims court and will have to pay up (don't you ever watch judge judy??) My brother is a landlord of a couple apartment complex's in northern Florida and he has to go to small claims court on almost a monthly basis. I will never understand why so many people think that when they break their lease (i.e. move out early) they can just stop paying their rent and nothing will happen. I will never rent out places after the shit my bro has told me. When he was still in NY and renting a few places he had this one tenant who was being evicted(in NY it takes a wicked long time to actually evict someone) and during that time they used the entire house as a toilet, had their dogs shit/piss all over the house, (now this is the really nasty part) they hid peices of beef, chicken, and fish all throughout the house (like fucking pounds of meat) and in the air ducts and turned the heat up to 90degrees!!! The house stunk so bad that it had to be completely gutted and even then he couldn't get the smell out. He ended up selling the house to somebody for like 1/4 of the appraised value. Shortly there after he sold all his properties in NY and moved to FL. Only problem he has down there is people not paying rent and trashing places. Word to the wise never get involved with rentals its so much more hassale than it is worth. Peace-

Re: breaking an apartment lease?
the former neighbor took off to south carolina (where he was originally from). How does that work. I doubt law enforcement is going to spend their resources hunting him down 3 states away and dragging him back here.

Renting sucks. Can't wait till I can buy my own place.

Re: breaking an apartment lease?
that's why smart landlords require all tenants to sign the tenancy agreement; that way, all parties are liable.
