I got my SS for $26k, when it was four months old with 3k miles on it. You'd struggle to find something that will top an SS in more than one of those three characteristics for less than $30k. Keep in mind it wouldn't have to be an SS, a Z28 has the same powerplant in the LS1. Find one that's newer with low miles, and use the savings to mod it if you so choose. Start with the best powerplant you can find, regardless of what's wrapped around it. That will give you the best results. There will always be other's with built cars that can beat whatever you get, so don't sweat it. That's where the love of an enthusiast is at. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Past 4500 rpm my exhaust setup is screaming so loud you'd think the engine is about to blow. oh yeah, i redline at 6800. A mustang is probably the best investement you'll make. Believe me! I raced a brand new Honda S2000, and smoked it. We hit 135 in no time(my car shuts off at 152, but is capable of going faster), and i was still in fourth gear. No offense dude, but Hondas just plain suck, time to move on up.
BULL SHITTTTT!!!!!!!...everyone SMART knows that the s2000 is an amazing car trust me i used to sell hondas i know for a fact that they are great cars in everyway..just because you may have beaten someone who can not drive well on a 1/4 mile doesnt mean they suck ...CONSIDERING THE S2000 IS NOT A FRIGGIN DRAG CAR YOU DUMBASS HICK ..ITS BASICALLY A DAILY DRIVEN TRACK CAR.THAT IS MADE TO GO IN CIRCLES AND TAKE CORNERS !!!!!!!..it has such a high redline for that reason because honda knew it would be using higher rpms most of the time for the track use where high rpms are needed not low end torque which is only needed at the beggining.
so i hate to burst your bubble but your ugly barely emission passing gas guzzler ugly piece of shit mustang would lose terribly to a s2000 if it were on a track it was designed for.you domestic people really need to open your eyes up and realize that imports are amazing cars ..shit i was raised around domestics but once i started learning about imports and what they are truely capable of and the craftsmanship of them i knew they were the car for me.. and havnet had any regrets.

He wouldn't only lose to an S2000 on the track. He'd lose to me driving my stock S2000 in the 1/4 mile. From the mods he has listed, I doubt he breaks 13's.

smoked bad? lol. He wasn't trying, or can't go above 5000rpm since the car isn't broken in yet. You top out at 152? The S2000 tops out higher.

Your in Fairbanks. Thats an easy choice, THE SUBARU. Get the WRX. Over here in England they are King. Well, the Skylines are, but the WRX is second.

SELL YOUR CIVIC, BUY A CIVIC EX

With this EX you will have ABS brakes to stop, which is the first part of going fast. Ok, now get a Honda CRV block, which is a 2 liter block, then get a GSR or ITR head. Slap the 2 together and you can easily have a 13 second car with IHE. It wont cost as much as a Stang or Z28, it will also be cheaper on Insurance. IHE=Intake Headers Exhaust. A little tuning will help, maybe some ITR cams. Good Luck

What are you trying to buy a brand new car or used?

It's in everyones taste but I prefer Firebirds over Camaros. Camaro's look a little bland except the SS, and most things optional on Chevy vehicles are usually standard on a Pontiac. So depending what you buy (if its used) you'll usually end up with a better car on the inside if its a Pontiac. Formula's are cheaper then the Trans Am and they have the same power so thats a bird to look for.

Mustangs, what about that Mach I are they really making it? If you can't afford a new Cobra that might be a brand new car to consider waiting for, or a GTO.

Imports, well looks like people here have already mentioned some good cars so don't have to go there. Wouldn't know much to tell ya anyways.

what about the old mustangs, the 5.0s .some guy had ported 70's 302 headsand a 150 shot of tnt nitrous and he does 11.20 on the quarter mile , he also has JEpistons and an FRP X303 cam. total seal rings Clevite bearings and a high volume oil pump Canton 7-quart pan and and DDSgriddle for safety. this stuff also comes cheaper than what u will pay to change an engine or buy these parts for a new car if yall wanna see more check out the new MUSCLE MUSTANGS and FAST FORDS magazine.

Wait for a new evo VIII, starting at 29, high 12's stock, and there basically a rally car, so handlings not even a question. If you want a stang, wait another year or so and get the new model. personally if i had 30 grand to through out there i'd buy a supra. They're potential for horsepower is endless.

Evo or WRX, trust me. Those cars are bad ass. I get smoked by them all the time over here. I saw a EVO dyno at 360bhp, that is awesome.

Anyone who writes in response to this question is of course going to be baised, the only real thing you can do is what you want. People can say Camaro SS, Fox Body Mustang, Trans-Am, and the list goes on. Just think about it. You can buy another car, fix up one while you cruise in the other. I've seen fast Mustangs, Trans-Ams, Camaro SS's, and Honda's. Just get what you like.

you want handling? speed? braking?

ok fine just get a motorcycle, any make of japanese motorcycle will do.

end of subject.

i know you're in alaska, but thats not my problem. :hehehe:

kidding... what about anything classic?

Classic muscle cars make great pets.
just about any make any model you can think of you can pick up for less than 8k if you search long enough.

engines are easy to mod, no smog, mega horsepower potiential...

even though my car isnt the best looking (check my profile deal) its the $5500 wonder. goes pretty quick too! gives most cars on the road a run for their money, when im done restoring it ill have about 15k into it, and it'll be a new car in and out. ill be some $5000 to $15000 ahead of the competition (meaning thats how much i DIDNT spend on my car i.e. 02 SS costs like 28k i'll have almost 13k on it)

but since you live in a artic region, and it snows i have to assume they put salt down on the roads so you can actuall drive on them? if so please whatever you do dont get a classic, i couldnt bear to think it would rust away. Or just keep the Civic as your daily, and get a classic cause we all know you probably wouldnt appreciate the gas milege! hahah 28mpg is nice than say my 14mpg (8 if i race something).

just my .14 cents
