Oh man oh man. I live in the 757 area code as well (up on the north side of the HRBT), and there are LOADS of people with grapefruit launchers/fart cannons that, judging from their crappy acceleration when they floor it, have done nothing to their vehicles to actually increase their performance.

I saw the funniest thing the other day. A 1997 Malibu with a body kit and oversized rear wheels - on a FF car! Now, I suppose it is technically possible that they had somehow converted their 'Bu to be an FR, but I seriously doubt it. The body kit was poorly done, too. Now, I'm with flatlander and brody in that I respect someone with a nice-looking car, but big rear wheels on an FF car is just retarded.

As for speed . . . I'm selling my 'Bu (yep, that's mine in my sig), and with my roughly 8k price range, I could easily opt for a used Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang. But because I'm in college, have no scholarships, and make $7 an hour, I'm going to get a gently-used Civic. I know it won't be fast, but there's a saying: all things come to those who wait. Someday, when I can afford the gas and insurance for a fast car, I'll get one. But until then, I'll just have to sate myself by carving corners and getting good gas mileage.

I've only just realized that my post is almost completely lacking in actual content. Uh, yeah. People who add weight to their car and think that makes it faster are dumb.

pfft, camaros and mustangs both turn as well. with some minor suspension work and some time behind the wheel they handle hella good. in the car comparisons forum someone stated that an LS1 Camaro could handle as well or better than a 240SX both with comprable mods.
With minor minor engine work and some time with a wrench, a "ricer" (as you so eloquently put it) can run pretty fast.

Unbeknownst to you, 240SX's aren't that great at handling. S13's suffer from a lot of understeer. Moreso than my FWD MX6.

You're starting another stupid battle that has no end. Everyone has their preferences. It's not always about getting to the end of a quarter mile fast. It's not always about GOING fast. Car enthusiasts are car enthusiasts, whether they like to make them look wild and unique or like to make them blow by exotics.. on the strip or on the course.

You're not saying anything new by flexing 8 cylinders. No one cares.

One thing that I think is just funny is how many of the older Honda's I see that think they're car is the shit when its slower than hell and they're constantly having they're foot down all the way on the gas just to go fast, or look like it.

Except here's probably what you're going to end up doing. You're going to get tired of waiting and saving up another $8k for a mustang, instead you'll save up $3k for an engine swap for your Civic, and you'll be happy. It will be much faster than it was before, and it will get low 30s mpg vs. high 30s mpg than it did before. Oh and you're also going to reply to my post swearing that you will never do that.

i know this. read what i wrote in the original post:

If you want to drag race your car, they in more cases than not, an American V8 is the best bet to go, or at least something RWD w/ a turbo if it has to be Japanese.

i know you can make imports fast, i honestly think i would trade my camaro for a TT 300ZX if i could have the chance.

Re: Ricers

most ricers are all show no go. i was at mcdonalds one day and a ferrari 360 and a ricer honda pulled up next to eachother at a light. the honda started revving its puny ass 1.6 liter, the light turned green and the ferrari shot off like a bat out of hell. the honda had no chance. proves to show you all show no go.

There's no point to all show and no go. It just makes you look like a dumbass. If people try to get me to race, I look over at them and shake my head in disgrace at the sight of their ugly-ass car. Do ricers honestly think they have a chance against anything? "Oooh look at me, I have ugly-ass chrome taillights and a Wal-Mart body kit and I can kick your ass." Please, people. If you're gonna trick out a car, do it right.

Re: Ricers

I was at a stop light the other night, and an late 90's Civic pulls up next to me with the crappiest looking body kit I'v ever seen. He starts to rev his motor up and I just ignore him. He does it again so I hold in the clutch and go to about 4500rpm. Now my Chevelle is very, very loud and you couldn't even hear his wine anymore. All of a sudden i hear a big POP and smoke from his hood. The dumbass blew his motor. I just started laughing,I was dying. I just casually drove off and when he got out he was cussing at me so I burnt the tires going 25. That is the funniest crap that has ever happened to me.

Re: Ricers

^lmao thats awesome^

If im sitting at a light and a really nice looking car pulls up and it looks pretty quick , I might rev a little at him just to see how fast his/her car really is. I mean come on, im in a V8 truck. If a Evo or something pulls up and i rev at him.....either im completely retarded, actually wanna race, or just wanna see him take off. Since i dont have a super/turbo-charger in my truck ill just see how fast they can take off for now.
