Ferrari 250 GTO series 2 with the opening brass doors, by a builder from Mexico. Gorgeous model. I was told it won best auto, but I may be wrong.

IPMS has hell to pay for this kind of thing happening. Every model was issued a claim ticket to prevent theft. Every modeler was expected to show the claim tickets for their models as they left. Obviously this was not done, due to a snafu in the awards banquet and the urge to get the doors open to let people pick up their models.

There are apparently security camera tapes that they'll try to see who took the model. It happened late after almost all the other models had already been picked up. It was rather surprising that this model had been left to sit out on it's own at that point, but that's not an excuse.

The entire show was riddled w/glitches. It was fun, but not as perfectly run as one would expect.

At our ACME show here in November, we have contingency plans if the model shows up. I can't imagine the thief being that bold/stupid, but who knows?
I have e-mailed the owner of the GTO to find out if it was really stolen and if so what is being done about it.

Ramon hasn't returned my e-mail regarding the GTO...I heard he is slow to respond but he's very friendly.

As far as results of the contest they're yet to be posted....I'd say at this point they probably won't be.

Re: IPMS Nats - results?

The host club has really dropped the ball post-convention. They've been unresponsive to e-mails, and requests on the IPMS forum.

How hard is it to post a list of the winners?

There was so much chaos around the time of awards, that I didn't get to see who won awards in many categorys. They had already packed their models up and went home.

I'd say the ball was dropped long before the convention. Normally the IPMS Journal will list the winners w/a bunch of photos in the next issue. However this information should have been online right after the show.

For what is the biggest, most prestigious model show in probably the entire world, they really FU'ed big time in so many respects. The Nationals were anything but a well-oiled machine. I hope IPMS and other host clubs learn from the mistakes made this year.

I agree, but it was run like crap. They had all these plans to make it a very thought out show, but none of those plans were executed. Such as the claim tickets. They made such a big deal about them, but never bothered to check them.

Our shows NNL South is a smaller show, but is run a whole lot better. Everything went pretty smoothly at last years show.

Who was the Host Club?

Personally, I think the problem is with the IPMS board, and that they insist on having the banquest AND hold the models and awards hostage until after they can kiss each others a$$es to their satisfaction at said banquet.

Just got response back from Ramon about his stolen GTO and I responded to his questions. Also assured him that all modelers are on the lookout for his model and that the ACME club would help anyway we can. Personally I don't think there's any solution unless the thief gives the car up anonymously or unless he was caught on a security camera.

Quote:
Thank you Brian, and yes, unfortunately it is true, it was stolen, this is
to bad, since this model was very significant for me, the people at Atlanta
said that they are doing something but things move too slowly, and I don't
know what to do.

I f you hear something about the destiny of my car I will appreciate you let
me know.

By the way, where did you hear about my loss?
The IPMS Atlanta told me that they posted it somewhere but didn't told me
exactly where.

Best regards and thanks for your kind words

Re: IPMS Nats - results?

Holy s**t!!!
I hope that wasn't the model I think it is!!!
I've only ever seen it via the web but it was gorgeous and the builder is a really nice guy.

It's a sad world we're in, when theft and fraud come into modelling.

Congratulations Ramon and at the same time I'm sad for you and I hope that your model will turn up someday, somehow.

Hello All:

I'm Ramon, the owner/builder of the "still missing" GTO Series II

First of all, I want to thank you all for your kind words on this happenings, some of you have sent me e-mails (Veyron: sorry for the delay on my answer, didn't check hotmail for a while) with compliments and comforting words, which I really appreciate.

You all are really great guys! I'm glad to belong to this forum.

Then, what happened, no more than what you already know, a friend of mine, who took the model to Atlanta, went to pick it up at 12:00 AM that night, and the model wasn't there, another friend told me he left the hotel contest room at approximately 11:15 and the model was still there, so who took it, was during this time frame.

And yes, it was confirmed by the Contest Chairman, that the model earned the "Best Auto of Show" award.

What makes things a little bit strange but gave some hope, is that, who took the model took also the 1st place trophy and the booklet (32 pages) of explanation & information about the model.

I want to think that a person who steals a model, takes just the model and leaves, doesn't take the time to pick everything, so, hopefully somebody took the model to a "safer place" thinking it wasn't being picked up, I know that this is some of ingenuity, but I still don't want to think it was just stolen.

I'm still very sad about this, this is the first time this happens to me, I have already participated in more than 100 contests most of them in Mexico, and never lost a mirror or an antenna, but what makes things worst is that this model particularly had a history of his own, and had a very special value for me, besides the money and the huge amount of time invested on it.

Today are 18 days since my model disappeared, everything is happening so slowly, I'm almost losing any hope, the people at the IPMS Atlanta told me that they requested the surveillance videos to the hotel, I hope this will lead us to know at least who took it.

And finally, if somebody knows something that lead us to find my GTO, or have any idea to help find it, I'll appreciate you let me know.

Any contact please address it to:
[email protected]

This is the e-mail I have always open, if I can help with anything else feel free to contact me to this.

Thank you again guys!

Best regards.
