i understand how you want to learn, but buying the whole engine would be sooo much easier. You could buy it, take it apart and put it back together. If you buy piece by piece you may get even more frustrated with so many parts laying around and nothing happening to your car.

Re: B16 or B18 that is the question

ok, listen, i have a b18c1 that i bought, and spent 2 years building... couldnt be happier (well, until i go boost)... i suggest that unless you are going to rebuild the engine like i did, then you should just buy a complete used one, otherwise you are going to spend a TON of money replacing thing that you break, of just need to replace once you take them off (gaskets, seals, head bolts etc..) also, if your going to build the engine, go to www.helminc.com and buy the service manual for whatever engine you get (trust me, you'll need it) and if i were you i buy the newest engine you can (simply beacuse the parts you dont rebuild (tranny) wont have many miles on them) i bought a 2000, and my friend bought an 01.

here is a good motor site, and the link to a SiR swap, pretty good deals if you read into it, and you could also get a C5 or C1 from them
