GMMG is going to build them but there is some discussion over using the ZL-1 name. It might be renamed the Z06 Camaro. www.gmmginc.net to check out the car for yourself.

to Blackbird01... I don't think it is the ZL-1. That was a concept car that GM made last year with an 8.4 liter V8 and a supercharger pushing 770rwhp and running (i think) in the high 10s. According to GM there were NO plans to produce this model in anyway. But you never know...

I know what the current ZL-1 Camaro prototype is.
GM made it basically to show off the stuff that can be made with "GM Performance Parts"... It's often found competing with Fords big block Mustang on the road course and drag strip. However, back in 1969 they built 69 ZL-1 Camaros with special "ZL-1" engines in them and were sold to the public. They were all orange with orange wheels. They also built 7 Corvettes with the motor, but decided they were too fast/dangerous and so they took back what they could. 2 still exist somewhere, but the others were replaced with I believe the LS6 motor(old version). Last I heard, they were building 69 of these "ZL-1" Camaro's just like they did back in 1969 and they were to be equipped with the LS6 engine. Of course, the name could still be in debate for all I know.

There were 69 of the ZL-1 Camaros built, but there came in any color offered for the 69 model year. They were dressed like plain 6 cylinder Camaros, no badges (Camaro on the fender) with stamped steal wheels, with the exception of a cowl hood. These cars also had no options in them. And you only got one if you knew someone, ZL-1 Camaros weren't marketed to the public, but it was possible to get one, most were sold to professional drag racing teams. Some made it onto the street, but most were strip only cars. The ZL-1 in the Vettes and Camaros knocked out 585hp @6,600rpm, but the ZL-1 Camaro was only rated at 430hp. The Camaros were ment for the strip, while the Vettes were built for the race track. The LS6 Vette's were a totalilly different kind of Vette. The LS6 engine was just the top of the line engine for 70-72, unlike the ZL-1 Vette which was produced for racing. Only 2 ZL-1 Vettes were built.
