Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

what kind of motor do the impala cop cars run under the hood??? it can't be the v6, any fool with a grand prix could outrun them....even if it was the SS impala i still think the cops would need more power than a v-6 even if it was supercharged......and i think the new 327 impalas/grand prixs come out in 2006....i still don't understand why you would have a v-8 with fwd but meh, whatever GM killed the camaro for a wannabe hot rod truck....still hate GM for that...

Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

The 95 Impala SS had an LT1 in it and for its massive bulk it could move pretty quick. The 05 or 06 Impala is getting a V8 I heard. Cops don't really care too much about out running people its not worth a high speed chase. I think the police Impalas with the V6 FWD will run mid to low 15's If I am correct which is more than enough to catch most people.

Just so you know...a number of motors listed above are Inline, not V-config, motors.

Not to mention the top of the line motors of their respected companies. The 3.8 sc isn't a motor gm produced to be put into cars like the corvette for ultimate performance. It's more of a motor for a fast grocery getter...kinda like a GM version of the SHO. The Vq series motors are used in a Nissan sports car...then detuned slightly for some of their passenger cars. The 2jz is in one of toyotas greatest cars, and the same goes for the rb series of engines (except with nissan).

2 turbos and still only makes 315 tq? Not trying to bash the supra but c'mon that's more of an insult than anything.

I'd still rather have my S54B32 or a fully built and TCd S52...

i believe the engine in the cop verison of the impala is whatever engine is in the vette of that year. so the new cop impalas will get the new vette engine. someone correct me if im wrong.

i don't think they will be putting LS2's into fleet vehicles even if they are cop cars. a 400hp fwd would be insane. also an ls2 is configured to a RWD. the engine is designed to sit north/south of the car, not east/west like a fwd. so i doubt they would be puttin such an engine in a cop car.

and also the tq rating for the supra TT is underated. its puts down around 280 lb of tq at the wheels, same as the hp. and remember, the supra TT is extremely detuned from the factory.

Indeed.
No question the RB26DETT was and to a lesser extent the VG30DETT; the flagship motors for nissan. The others I listed were much more widly used, such as the RB25DET & RB20DET (cefiro, skyline) and the VQ30DET(gloria/cedric) and still were detuned from the factory to avoid competing with their higher end motors which were listed at a mear 280hp due to the gentlemens agreement. This agreement also skews the apparent power numbers put down by all japanes motors (2jzget etc...) compared to domestic ones.
The SC 3.8 built by GM is their flagship 6 cylinder, and as such is out dated and underpowered for what it is. Dont get me wrong, Im a domestic fan just not a 6 cyl domestic fan.
I simply wanted to point out the ignorance or mearly miss-information of some people that may not be familiar with japanes powerplants.

Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

yah you know you're fucked when you have to slap FI on a v6 to achieve hp/tq #'s that the Japanese car companies are putting up with naturally aspirated engines.

Not to bash mustangs 90redGT but the fact that my non turbo v6 makes more power stock for stock than your V8 STANG. is more of an insult than anything. jk

as was stated the car is detuned. tis is why with bpu, your in the 450hp range.

with just the b/c alone, you can pull out about 420hp

those 2 turbo's on that v6 is adding 95hp detuned

Are you sure it does? I thought the 90GT made 225Hp and close to 300Tq? Not to bash on your car or anything but I am not so sure you have him outgunned.
