I'm using the lt1 fans out of a camaro with a Nelson wiring harness and my pcm is running my fans, as well as my ac. I have no cooling problems whatsoever, and this is on my stock radiator.

Riding down the road, it runs about 160-180. Sitting in traffic in the heat of the day, the highest I've ever seen it get up to is around 210. My temps are running higher now since I raised my torque converter lockup to 40mph. It used to run under 200 pretty much all of the time when it locked up at an earlier speed, but I like the street manners of the higher lockup.

Re: LS1 Fans

Your trans has been modfied slightly, LOL, so it can handle the higher temp right? Did you add another in line trans cooler or just the stock cooler setup? From what I've read and heard from others is that getting to 210 will shorten the life of a stock trans. Do you agree?

My tranny is completely built, so it can handle alot more abuse. I have a permacool tranny cooler inline with the stock cooler. From what I have gathered 210 isn't deadly to a 4l60. I've only hit it once, at lunch sitting in heavy traffic, outside temp was about 91 or so, and I couldn't get any room to stretch it out and lock up the converter. If I get to a crusing speed pretty early from leaving my house, the temp stays right at 155, but on average I'd say it stays in the 160 range and track passes gets it up into the 180-190 range.

Re: LS1 Fans

Once my truck gets to operating temp the tranny starts the creep up to 190. Once at 190 it won't go down until I get above 60 for a run. Talking with Allen the trans should run 160-165. The air temp around here has only got to 92-95 and it looks to be 100+ sooner than later and I really don't want to see my trans temp get higher.

After looking at the new trucks I found the 6.0 Liter trucks have the 34x17 radiator with electric fans. LARGE fans, I did say LARGE didn't I?? Curious how well they work for a GM part. Can't hurt to put a larger radiator and fan setup in my truck. Now to be able to afford it, radiator and fans.

I am not saying the LS1 fans are bad, just not as cool as I want it to be.

I've already priced a 6.0L radiator(one of my next mods). I think one problem with my cooling is the fact that my radiator has never been went through and cleaned out. I think with the 34" inch radiator, my lt1 fans, and my permacool cooler, I should have no problems with cooling the tranny or the engine. I think my tranny temps are pretty good considering the size stall I'm running and other factors. I'm like you though...I can never be "too" careful.

Re: LS1 Fans

I found a company locally that makes a 34" cooler with oil cooler and trans cooler internal for $230, not bad. Then to see if I can find a used elec fan from a 34" rad. Soon, soon....
