i) knowing that wearing a seatbelt can prevent injuries

yet you still choose not to wear a seatbelt and when you get caught, you complain about it?

hey guys, let's play a game of spot the stupid one.
While we're at it lets play who can spot the dumbass that can't sense sarcasm...

I am, by far, not the only one complaining either, mr. law abiding citizen.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

I say we make seatbelts optional. It'll sure thin out the gene pool a lot quicker.

But seriously? Why don't you wear a seatbelt? You're one of those people that is a rebel without a cause, aren't you...

Re: Stupid seatbelts

sarcasm?
i) sarcasm is in part based on tone, something that isn't detectable in the written word.
ii) i didn't actually see anything that resembled sarcasm. can you point out the sarcastic bit? i'd like to know what you consider to be sarcastic. really, i do.

yes, many people complain about seltbelts but how many of them are here starting and defending their thread/post about it?
by starting a thread, you open yourself up to attack through the words that you use and the way you present things. that is a given seeing as this is an open forum. complaining when someone does 'attack', that is, wait for it.... stupid.
what has whether or not i am a law abiding citizen got to do with anything? am i the one complaining about getting caught doing something stupid?

Re: Stupid seatbelts

I don't think that being a law abiding citizen really has anything to do with wishing to save one's life. I also can't see how you still don't wear a seatbelt even after being in two accidents...just seems that for something so simple to be so lifesaving, that it shouldn't need a second thought. Just my 2cents...

Mustanman thanks for your post, but nothing will change my opinion, it's just that. And drunken_monkey, the sarcasm was me using the smiley with the user thing, but i'm not going to post anymore defending my opinion, it's obviously not getting across, so why don't the both of us just stop. You can defend your's as much as you like but in the end, your breaking guidelines by taking a personal stab at me, like it matters much, but just stop it. Like you said, it's the internet, and if your going to get on here just to make comebacks because you have nothing else to do, then well I can't stop that, but my time wasted is stopping here. So we'll just agree, I'm not making the best opinion in not wearing a seatbelt, it's not a stupid one, as much as you'd like to think, because like I said, I sometimes wear it yes, but not generally around here.

The other one was purely my fault, got caught up in something and took a down hill turn at 60+ mph on a gravel road. Once I got back and looked at the sign hidden by bushes it said 15 mph. yeah a little bit too fast but I'd never been on the road before. Both of these were easily less than 500 dollars damage, I myself just got thrown around a little bit. At the times that those happened though I'll agree, my head wasn't where it should have been really, that was when i was 15/16 though, so bein a teenager I should have a little slack right? and I didn't hurt anybody else so I'm greatful for that. Also, luck is something far from what I ever get, so don't assume that I got lucky. I'll agree with you on the last paragraph of yours fully though. If I ever got in an accident and killed someone, and it was fully myself I literally could not live with myself and I dont know what I'd do for that person's family. When I had to go to classes for drunk driving they showed us a video where some high school kid was drunk and killed another girl in an accident, and after that all the parents asked of him was to write out a one dollar check to her name, every week, for 30 years, and it showed him later in life that it was getting very hard for him to write those out, I dont know if I could do that. And believe me, it's not because I don't care, you dont know me so dont' accuse me of that.
V-10 your response in this post sounds like your growing up. Everyone did some stupid $hit when they were young. There are worse things than not wearing your seatbelt (like driving drunk) but if you just start wearing it then you'll get used to it. I'm so used to always using mine that I laugh when I automatically put it on even when I'm just moving the car out of the garage to the driveway.

Well christ you guys jumped on my ass, in one of my first posts I said how it's just highly uncomfortable in my truck, yet in other vehicles I have no problem with it. I don't think I'll get use to the fact that it cuts the shit out of my neck and rubs violently on my shoulder when I do wear it. Not to mention the seating position in which I drive just sucks to wear a seatbelt. I have the crappy ass bench seat in my truck and being fairly tall, the arm rest in it isn't as high as I'd like it to be, and no, I dont drive with both hands on the wheel, either my right arm is on the arm rest, or my left arm is out the window. Don't start me on the driving drunk thing, I've tried to do it less and less, no matter how much I've had, but when I'm drunk, I know it and I try to drive careful, but maybe it's just the drunkness that says that.

ec437...I am a Rebel...sorry that's our school's mascot, I just had too. And you are right though, and I can prove it, because for some reason when things are illegal it just makes them funner to do, and I don't know why.

Whenever I drive my g'mas Aurora it's weird, but I almost always put my seatbelt on there come to think of it, driving my dad's truck I've put it on at times, and usually when my mom asks I'll put it on if I'm driving her van but I dunno...I'm too much like my grandfather, and my dad's even told me that. The 77 Caprice that I first drove was his old car before he died, and he completely cut the seatbelts out of there, and I guess starting out driving not wearing seatbelts kind of started a habit there.

Frankly you're all entitled to your opinion, and if you want to consider me as "stupid" then thanks, it's nice to see you can make a false accusation, I'd rather call it being stubborn. But to each his own. drunken_monkey sorry if the sarcasm didn't show, or if I sounded like I was acting offensively, because I was, you can't just call someone stupid on here and not expect something.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

stupid is about having sense or not.
it is the general concensus that not wearing a sealtbelt is a stupid thing to do, hence your actions, despite having been in more than one accident, is stupid.
saying someone/something is stupid isn't offensive when it's a statement of fact.
it's not a personal attack, it is stating an observation.
calling someone "dumbass", however, is offensive.

anyway.
this is a kid who's just admiteded to continual DUI.
kinda says it all.
not wearing a seatbelt,
failing to see that a particular road/turn/juntion is recommended to be driven at 15mph,
(do i need a sign to tell me a particular bend should be taken slowly?)
drunk driving.

shall we play that game again?

You sir, are a dumbass, one that doesn't realize when he should shut the fuck up. If I am truly "stupid" as you say, for driving after drinking four beers, and blowing a .03, when the limit for underage is .02, then fuck, I guess I'm going to hell!! And yes, on country roads, that I've never driven on before, at NIGHT, when there are lazy county workers, yes I guess I am suppose to see clearly the fucking sign that is behind a tree branch, covered out of sight, not completely, but not for somebody who is driving, once again, fuck you. You need to grow up far more than I do if all you can do is keep coming back here to try and get your point across, go to hell, maybe they'll have better things for you to do there. So ok, lets start the game over. Wow, I've just thought about how many "stupid" people are in the United States, and because of some of your actions, I'm willing to bet your one of them, but you'll deny that I'm sure.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

my actions?
all i have done is point out the things you have said.

15 mph is very slow.
i can't ever say that i have ever come across a road situtation taht requires 15 mph.
i can only image that the turn in question is either tight, hidden, or it tightens.
that was what i was alluding to.
point is, you failed to judge the road condition, speed sign or not.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

Guys...whether you think it is a poor decision or not, doesn't matter. He is an American, and as an American he has the right to make the choice to break the law. Whether you agree with his decision or not, doesn't make it right for you to attack him personally.

If you are unfamiliar with the AF user guidelines, I suggest you all go and read them now, because you can all consider this your warning. I will not tolerate name-calling or personal attacks.

I cannot say I agree with viper's choice, but whatever, nobody here is perfect, so why doesn't everyone chill out. I think everyone has made thier points, so let's move on.

I'm just gonna quote myself on this drunken_monkey. I'm not sure if you read my post that contained this. The second one I'll agree with you on, yes it is my fault, and yes I did misjudge the road. It was at night and like I said, I was caught up in a little dispute at the time, not paying full attention, didn't see the road sign, now at night these signs are suppose to reflect to catch people's attention. Now with it being half hidden, and me being caught up in something led me to not see it. They are called accidents for a reason though, because this was purely that. And yes, I'll take a picture for you if you want but it is a 15 mph. turn, a very, very tight turn in which taking at 20 mph either way is on the point of sliding around. And it goes downhill which only worsens it, just wanted to clear that out, and like I've said numerous times in previous posts, I take full blame for those.

Seatbelt dont mean your safe. One of my friends was riding with her mom about 2 weeks ago and they got into a wreck. Her mom who was wearing a seatbelt was killed, my friend who wasnt wearing a seatbelt though was thrown from the car did live.

So dont think wearing a seatbelt will save your life. Merely depends on the accident.

True, but statistics prove that seat belts do put the odds in your favor. Still there are always occasional exceptions like you pointed out. I'll keep mine on and take my chances.

Re: Stupid seatbelts

In Australia, it's illegal to be in a moving vehicle and not have a seatbelt on. Exceptions include public buses, and trains. You get caught not wearing a seatbelt, the driver is fined heavily (over $1000, so be happy with your pathetic 50 dollar fine), and lose 2 demerit points (out of 12 for a full licence).
