that works too, and a $450 15 should perform quite a bit better than a pair of $225 10s or 12s

Re: 10" or 12" subs???

get two of the new alpine type R 12"s, i haven't heard it in a car myself (heard it in the booth at bestbuy, sounded good), but since it should be an improvement from the 04's it should be pretty good

Okay, for the Xenons, the 10" Xenons are 450 watts RMS (Phoenix Gold told me they are a little under-rated). The 12" Xenons are 500 watts RMS (again they said a little underrated). So 2 10" Xenons is 900 RMS, and 2 12" Xenons is 1000 watts RMS. You'll want to get the DVC2ohm subs, to run 2 of them @ 2 ohms for that amp. You'll want to run the voice coils on each sub in series, and then run the 2 in parrell to keep the end load @ the amp @ 2 ohms for the 2 DVC2ohm subs. Remember that amp IS NOT 1 ohm stable, so don't get 4ohmDVC ones.

Now, for the box size. The recommended box size 10" Xenon subs, for a sealed box, require a 1.6 cubic ft box each, so thats 1.6 * 2, which 3.2 cubic ft total. The 12" Xenons require a massive 2.2 cubic ft box each, or a huge 4.4 cubic ft box for the 2 of them. You can techincally make it a little smaller, since Phoenix Gold lists "SPL and "Music" box sizes, but they will even tell you they recommend the bigger box size (which I listed for each, it's under the "musical" listing) to the smaller one. Everyone in the tech deptartment I have spoken with recommends the box sizes I listed. Those sizes Include Driver displacement.

I personally say the 2 10" inch, as the recommend box size for 2 12' is a little big. The Xenons put ou a lot, so don't underestimate 2 10"DVC Xenons. Remember, nce ou want 2 subs, you want DVC2ohm subs for that amp.

Holy cat poop bat chick, that's a hunk of realestate for sealed enclosures. You sure that's what they recomend? The average for all the subs I sell are around 1.25 sealed for a 10 and 1.5 for a 12! Some require as low as .45 cu/ft for SPL!

they have an incredibly high Qts, I'd say a box size that big is completely necessary. Those are practically IB subs

Re: 10" or 12" subs???

Let me tell you, i have a '94 red hatchback, almost exactly like yours... i have two 12" pioneers, 4 channel, with only a 400 watt amp... they blow my car out of the water, on average volume i can feel the hair on my head shake.

Oh, I'm entirely sure that's there recommnded box size. I have a set of 10" VC 4 ohm Xenons, those numbers are directly off of their spec sheet that came with it. There was a typ-o n the sheet though. The 10" DVC 2 ohm also has a recommneded box size of 1.6 for usuall, no the .85 they listed. I have an older set before they corrected the typo.

As I said, that's the "musical" recommndation, but even Phoenix Gold will tell you if you call the tech deptartment they recommend the "Musical" box size, not the smaller SPL box size listing.

Now to put it in Prespective, the Phoenix Gold DVC 2 ohm 12" Octane-ZR subs (350rms each) require a 1.0 cubic foot box as the musical listing, so not all PG subs require a box that big, just the Xenons. As sr20de4evr eluded to, the way the Xenons are designed requires a big box.
