Re: Please post your gas consumption on 3.4L engines

Speaking of tune-ups, I know I could use one.. I am a poor college student though so I usually try to do as much stuff as I can myself. I do the oil, clean the K&N, recently changed the fuel filter.. I got some new spark plugs but I dont know how to get at them to put the new ones in, its a tight fit in the engine (2000 Grand Am Gt) but it should be basically the same for most GA's.. so if anyone has done that and knows an easier way. Also I'm having problems with my fog lights.. I put up a thread but nobody responded, it's called "Fog Light Fuse Q" or something similar, if anyone knows much about electronics and could help with that I would be pretty thankful.

Re: Please post your gas consumption on 3.4L engines

Plugs are cake. Hard part is getting the stock wire boots off.
Took me about 45 minutes first time. The back three are mostly by feel. I have fairly large hands and I found it pretty easy. Best to stand on the passenger side of the car to reach the back plugs. Don't forget anti-seize.

I get about 18 MPG in my 99 Grand AM SE Automatic. I don't know why as I did not mod anything.

Re: Please post your gas consumption on 3.4L engines

'99 GA with 3.4L V6, I regularly get about 22MPG in city/highway mix. About 20 in pure city, and 26-28 on long highway drives.

Re: Please post your gas consumption on 3.4L engines

Resurrected from the dead! Damn ! this threads a year old....

Anyway I get 22-24mpg city and 28-30mpg Hwy. Several mods too. But when its 100degrees or above outside mileage drops to around 20mpg cty and still the 28-30hwy. When its below 30 deg, I get the same as if it were hot outside(100+), Hwy mpg is always the same range.

Gir-_-, if you get 10 gal and you drove 200miles, divide them and you get 20. If you get 12 gal and you drove 220mls it would be 18.33.
I do mine by the monthly average, and always fill the tank when I fuel up(stupid gas gage not working) to get a more accuate reading. And I just let the pump shut off so its always filled the same.
Keep that oil changed at 4000miles everytime helps with mpg, just my

Re: Please post your gas consumption on 3.4L engines

Where do these old posts come from? I'm waiting on someone to bring back one from the very very begining....! But I'll put an update on MPG. The best i've ever gotten HWY is 32mpg, Cty is 20. Currently with a hwy/cty mix I'm getting anywhere from 18-24 mpg... pretty crappy i know and this is after a tune up.

Re: Please post your gas consumption on 3.4L engines

2000 GT(3.4) here with about 64,000 miles. I typically only do city driving.....and I only get about 225 miles for an entire tank of gas.......which is about 14-16 mpg for me. I don't feel I'm getting anywhere near what I should be. I've always got a clean filter, pretty new plugs and wires.....fairly new fuel filter.....i've run 93 octane gas and a couple bottles of injector cleaner through......I figure there's something wrong with my O2 sensor or another component of air/fuel ratio, ie ait temp sensor, maf sensor, map sensor....
