Mathematics is an abstraction of reality. The proposition is unsound as it mixes the abstraction (the apparent logic of mathematical principles) with inconsistency in teminology (are we using mounds as a unit of measure or as a noun to indicate a structure?) to arrive at what appears to be a paradox in logic.
The apparent paradox is that we have a solution to the equation that is inconsistent with the apparent truth of mathematics. However, no paradox exists as the semantics hide the the fact that if we were to use the original mounds as a benchmark unit of measure then, ceterius paribas, the mathematical abstraction holds true. Apologies for the technicalness of this response but I've been dealing with systems people all afternoon... |
