Lets develop one with Matt -- and we can make one for the 5th gen hatch while were at it I think $100,000 sounds like a good price :o :finger:

ok, so..after assessing my finances....i should have like, 1500+ to spend on stuff...im getting a d16y8 swap, with some aftermarket goodies (cam gear, possibly DC headers, and aem pullies(?) for like, 900 of that (is that a good price to offer?) i can continue to save up a bit, then what shall i do? how much would a turboed d16y8 cost me, assuming my swap is about 800.
or.....would i be able to get a b18b swap for ~1600? or is that wishful thinking? im really interested in the d16y8 to be honest....the fact that its a vtec engine interests me. so, if you had ~1600 bucks, what would you do, in regards to engine swapping? oh - and dont say "save up another grand and get a b16" because im not doing that. period. its shocking to me enough to see over 900 in my account right now, with the thought of payday friday, and 400 dollar money order coming in the mail thursday

A 6th gen hatch SOHC non Vtec motor with a Greddy kit at around 8 PSI on stock internals will give you around 170whp and around 160 lb/ft..
I know someone on a hatch running that setup at 8.5PSI on stock internals. He dynoed 172WHP and 160something lb/ft. That's probably a low 14 to high 13 sec setup on a hatch.

nice. very encouraging.. i wonder what i could run a 5th gen hatch w/ a d16y8 + turbo.. i mean, a greddy turbo for a D-series is what...liek 2 grand or something? i think im gonna stick to a almost-stock d16y8 for now, but the rest into other things (already have carpet and seats reserved, thinkin about coilovers + shocks...
whats the cost of a decent turbo for that engine?

2 grand? probably if its a brand new kit. Mine is going to cost me around 1300 with the Intercooler. I've seen brand new greddy kits sell at ebay for 1250 bucks, brand new. If you do a custom setup bying here and there, piecing it together it can cost you like 1200 and sometimes less..Complete. That's hella cheaper than swaping a b16a2 and you will have alot more power and torque.
For the price a B16 complete swap should cost you you can have a build Sohc and turbo kit to handle 10-12 PSI daily and run consistent 13 sec passes.

Compare:
3000 - 3200 +/- bucks for a complete b16a2 swap---> run mid 15 sec.

3000 - 3200---> Greddy kit w/ intercooler + some extras + some headwork to handle 10 PSI safelly--->Run mid 13 sec.

yeah, im gonna make this a project.... there is a turbo for a D-Series on thepartstrader.com for 800.....what else would i need? like, what exactly does one need to complete a turbo kit? im thinking the actual manifold itself, intercooler (tho that is optional right? but better?) then what? boost contoller or something? if you know, please enlighten me....i might get that turbo off thepartstrader if thats basically all i'd need, and could run some custom piping...but if i need a bunch more shit, then ill just wait, and buy it piece by piece, and throw it on down the road.

If yuou want to turbo your Sohc you will need:
Basic setup:
*Turbo manifold
*Turbine and down pipe
*Intercooler with necesary pipes(a must, you should not run w/o it even on low boost.Intercoolers usually are not included when you buy a new Turbo kit)
Blow Off Valve(Is important too but a basic turbo kit doesn't comes with it)
*Oil send/return line(Braided are better)
*450cc injectors(Kits usually includes them but if not, you can use Eclipse GST injectors)
*12:1FMU
*Better fuel pump

Extrathese will increase the turbo life and make things easier for you)
*Turbo timer(It helps the turbo to cool off and doesn't allow oil to stay in the turbine)
*Boost controller(you can up and down the boost from your cabin)
*Some kind of Air/fuel controler(like the AVC-R that allow you to control air and fuel mixtures,it also works as a boost gauge)

You can handle 6-8 PSI safelly (probably up to 10PSI,i know some ppl runing 10 psi on stock internals)on a stock motor(no internal upgrades). However if you want to increase the boost and be safe the most important thing of your internals are the Conecting rods.
Titaniums valves, springs and retainers for a safer higher reving.

Aight..Im proibably missing something but that should be most of it.

Check out the Turbo D16 forums, you'll get alot of valuable info there.

Alright, another turbocharged d16! Hopefully I'll be joining you soon.

Also, I wouldn't even consider the intercooler "optional", yes you could run without it, but you are going to need it eventually. By the way, 2000 could get you a GReddy kit with the intercooler, just shop around, I wouldnt pay much more than that. I think fjt pretty much covered it.

what about taking a torbo...

What about taking a turbo out of say a Daytona Shelby Z (Turbo II w/intercooler) and putting it on a D16Z6? Just curious.

When i say that the IC is optional i meant that it doesn't come with the Turbo kits. You have to purchase it appart from what you pay for the kit.

He he If you are patient you can even find a Brand new Greddy kit for 1500 bucks..

You can make any turbo from any car to work on your engine. You just need the turbine and a Turbo Manifold that fits your D16.

For example: You can get the Turbo Manifold for your engine and then put a Turbo(turbine) from an Eclipse GST,GSX or from another car. You will need to custom made the piping(that will be cheaper than purchasing a complete kit). Depending on the Size of the Turbine you can keep your AC or loose it if the turbine is bigger.

The bigger the Turbine, the more boost it can handle but also the bigger, the more turbo lag you are going to have. Smaller turbine = less turbo lag.
