Re: gettin my monthy itch again

is it possible to go huge like this with any particular sub and still get decent sq out of it? what if i did 6 or 8 12s? would that make a difference? anybody know anything about the jugernaut woofer by mmats? my buddy logan tells me they are great and he has done quite a few installs with them but i have never heard them before.

Re: gettin my monthy itch again

yeah theyre SPL subs from what ive read.. sq prolly wouldnt be great. I would think that a few avalanche 15s ported super low would give you awesome output and good sq still. the problem is, if you dont have retarded amounts of midbass and deadening and some strong clear tweets then you wont have much sq because your music will be to damn bass heavy. i say dont worry about SQ and get 4 DP 15s with 6kwrms or somethin and just prepare to lose all hearing.

if you listen to mostly rap theres no sense in worrying too much about sq. besides, like i said before, youre gonna be into way too much bass for a real sq setup IMO.

buy whatever you want. if you want it loud, a lot of these woofers mentioned will get the job done. youll definately be heard a couple blocks down.

6000w rms for the 4 DP 15"s? http://www.jbl.com/car/products/prod...er=GTI&cat=AMP

so is it true the more subs the less SQ? Think for my next system ill go for just 1 RE SX15 and just a pair of RE XXX 6.5" comps for the mid bass and front stage.

Re: gettin my monthy itch again

though i havent heard a DP, most ocmpare them to DD9500's in SQ and nsgm13 says they arent too far behind 9900's as far as SPL goes...

welllll IMO the difference wouldnt be noticable enough to care much about. for me it would be worth the output for an extra driver rather than worrying about any cancellation or minimal difference in bass frequencies.. don tknow what any terms would be (thats sr20s dept.)

besides, if youreTHAT worried about SQ then why are you getting an SX?

Well id get the single SX for suitability for my amp, cost effectiveness, space and its features figuring it was more of a sq sub than a XXX which seemed adequate for my needs, i mean anything wuld b bttr than the crappy pair of 800w pioneers i got at the moment. But now that you mention the avalanche 15" it might also be suitable to run off 900w rms. Like the idea of high output low distortion for a change

Re: gettin my monthy itch again

XXX is in no way SPL oriented...neither is the SX...the XXX has a low distortion long stroke motor with flat BL curve....when used properly (like in the XXX) it gives GREAT sq but not just in small movement situations....long stroke situations will also be controlled by the motor, and not the suspension. the SX is a daily woofer that has a decently powerful motor that wont bottom out when you put the power to it, which means as long as the coil isnt moving much in the gap the SX's SQ qill be just that of an XXX. but when it begins to move alot its BL drops off but the XXX's does not, which means the XXX' motor has superior controll and wont "get sloppy."
Think of the XXX as Brahma MKI only less efficient, but with greater power handleing and SPL ability...

Re: gettin my monthy itch again

Fryman, was that for me or 85GSi?
im assuming him.

but 85GSi, many say the avalanche is superior to the W7 and yeah 900 wrms would be perfect for it.

Re: gettin my monthy itch again

well it happened, i blew both of the p3s. shit. so now i have to get replacements for them before i can sell my car. its crazy too, i had just turned my gain down like a quarter of the way a couple days before and they still blew. i had in my cd called "cars that go boom". it went boom alright, then a puff of smoke came out of my vent and they were done. i had started to smell something like a voice coil but i couldnt' hear anything. boo to bandpass boxes. boo, boo. anyway, right when i could smell it i reach for the volume to turn it down and right when i did that they popped. i turned it all the way down and back up a little after about a minute and it was all rattle from there. guess some of you were right about the punch p3s. that will probably happen when you run 800rms each to 500rms subs and then procede to abuse the shit out of them. oh well, it happens i guess. ive decided ill just fix it and either buy a suburban or a 4 runner. im kinda leanin towards 4 12s. maybe w7s or the mtx thunder 9000s. then there is always the xxx or the death penalty. ive never heard them before though so i probably will not go with them. fuck it, ima just put an mtx jackhammer. 22 inches and 300 pounds of ground rumbling bass, or maybe a parthenon (if i can ever figure out what it is exactly). no, not really. what ever subs i go with will definitly not blow next time. as far as amps. if i go with the 4 mtx thunder 9000s im thinkin probably 4 1/1000 jls with 4 yellow tops in with them. some kind of computer to link all the amps together so they all do everything at the exact same time ( i know it exists but cant think of the name of it) alpine h/u ( the best one they make) jl 4 channel to push the focal mids and highs and another jl slash series amp to push the 8 inch drivers pickin up the mid range. dynamat throughout the entire car ( i mean every square inch) and maybe plexiglass if i start having a problem with the windshield and windows. so that is where i am at. what a great weekend it was. damn rockfords. i guess its my own fault though, trying to get more out of them than they were designed for. oh and the next system will have a sealed enclosure, if my shit starts distorting, i want to hear it. boo bandpass!
