yepp bov for shure. with out a bov and you got a turbo your going to get a lot of turbo lag. you can get one that is not that loud if you want to be a sleeper but i say you go for it.

blow off valves do have a really nice sound when you have a turbo kit installed also.

ummm yes, turbo=blow off valve, you need a bov or a recirc valve if you have a turbo period.

Turbo does not equal BOV. A BOV is not standard equipment on the vast majority of turbo cars. Also, I would avoid posting on topics that are over a month old. especially if they have already been settled. |

A BOV essentially releases built pressure straight out into the atmosphere. The problem youll encounter with BOV's is that the mass air flow sensor will cause the engine management system to "think" that the air will go into the engine and in turn will release an appropriate amount of fuel for it. However, a BOV system will vent this air out before it gets to the injectors causing your mixture to run lean. In turn, this will result in unburned fuel to escape into the exhaust system. This is why you often see flames and hear those "pop's" in rally cars. It is unburned fuel exploding in the exhaust system. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is not the smartest application for the day to day car. For this reason, reasonable tuners will usually employ a bypass or a diverter valve. These units essentially redirect this pressure back behind the compressor causing the net flow of air to remain constant. This in turn slows the turbine down gradually and allows the air flow sensor to work appropriately. so if you drive your car daily, dont get the damn thing! get a diverter or bypass valve. and if youre really set on getting a bov, ask your local import tuner.

Ehh not quite, stock BOV's are actually bypass valves that redirect the released pressure before the turbo after the AFM/MAF. The problem with AFM equiped, atmosphere vented BOV's is like you said, the air is released into thin air and the engine runs lean, most AFC's can compensate for this no problem but most all stock ECU's cannot. A MAP sensor equiped engine will have no problem with atmosphere vented BOV's since the MAP sensor can be put after the BOV, therefor not measuring the released air. The popping rally car comment is actually intentional, sort of an anti-lag system, by diverting some of the combustion process into the exhaust manifold while the engine is not under load the turbo can be kept on boost/spooled. This is very hard on the manifolds and turbos alike but since they have the budget to replace/fix them it's not a problem. Some of you guys are just awesome, getting a BOV for the sound and not the function, getting it for the look and not even knowing how it works, I bet some of you here would try and put one on your n/a honda
