Maybe if you are having no luck with your local Ford dealer, try a Lincoln Mercury store. Your car is basically the same as the Grand Marquis with a few detail differences, so no problem with them working on it and your warranty coverage is still good. Is your oil leak definitely not spillage from your last oil change. I don't know how much has changed under there between my 95 and your 04 but it is impossible to remove the oil filter without oil running all over the steering linkage and the plastic underbody cladding on mine. Which will appear as a leak if the oil change guy was not thorough when he wiped it up if at all. As far as the whirring noise, have you ruled out the obvious such as listening ac on and ac off etc? Are there any conditions that will make the noise more or less pronounced? I think the main problem with dealers is that half of what you tell the guy in the service lane never makes it to the tech. They take what you say and pick the closest numeric "condition code" and the tech gets "customer concern - noise in front of car" or some bullshit like that. Have the car running in the service lane, pop the hood and have the advisor listen to it. If you can hear it and he cannot, have him drag the tech out to the service lane and get him to listen to it.
