Re: GM Poll
Lets not divert now fella's. This is an automotive forums, its supposed to be around for people that like their cars or just want some advice time to time. Lets not get a flame war brewing in here. I think we've all experieced bad cars time to time. I know i've seen nearly identical cars bought at the same time, one perform flawlessly for years on end, while the other became a pit. It just varies, can't control it all.

many factors can cause a car to last longer or go bad sooner than expected. lets not forget that GM sold around 280,000 impalas from 00 (I think 3rd or 4th most selling car). that's almost a million and a half cars, it would be a freaking miracle if all worked flawlessly.... it is natural to find problems here and there. all we have to do is post some common problem here and see what are the solutions, that is what this forum is all about |

impalaguy i think you need to do your research buddy because all the cops i have ever talked to tell me that their impala 9c1s are in the shop every month or two for something stupid, and every year for a transmission or work on a transmission. Stop defending GM man. They FUCKING SUCK.

do you know what a police car goes thru on a daily basis????????? do you know the mileage they go every day? month? or year.... well it is about 10X the average car. not to say, jumping sidewalks, hard accelarations.... rough stoping... and who knows what other types of abuse.... how tha heck you put a police car to the test here???? i'm suprized those care don't go to the junkyard by the end of the day.... put an honda or a nissan to that torture and we'll see what happen... you'll have wheels flying after about 2 hours on the road..... ha ha all i'm trying to say is that all cars have problems and if you go by what you say they all suck big time... all! japanese, european and american! they just don't built them as good as they used to! put it this way, if a customer buys a new car and use it for freakin 15 years we won't have any car companys in business today! not to mention - auto parts stores, junkyards, repair shops and the list goes on and on.... it is all about business and money... i have cars from all manufacturers coming for repairs at the shop there is no specific model that needs repair more than the other (well the new volkswagens really suck i must confess) they all have their share.. and if you are not happy with your car pal sell it! no one on this planet force you to drive a car that you are unhappy with.. unless you have some kind of kink driving like that and posting coplaints all day long.....take care pal...... |

Re: GM Poll
Look all I'm saying is that GM knows that once the warranty is up your car becomes a money pit and they love it. I'm not a sheep who's going to go with the flow, thats the reason we all get shafted because barely any1 says to other people "hey reconsider buying that type of a car, look at how they treat their customers".

i don't care if it is american, japanese or european, they don't built them as strong as years ago! thats why i suggest to do like i do.... don't get married with a car! change it after 3 years. i lease them and replace them every 3 years. i have a problem, i go to the dealer and get it fixed for free when the 3 years go by. i turn the car in and get another one, as simple as can be and i'm happy as can be..... |

[quote=3.4imp]... 500$ intermediate steering shaft problem, /QUOTE]
If you paid $500.00 to have an intermediate shaft replaced, you paid 2.5 times too much. Maybe you need a NEW DEALER, not a different car! Maybe you have sucker written on your forehead, go look in the mirror. (it will be backwards, write it down and someone will read it back to you) Chris |

See the antifreeze in our Blazer is now starting to turn brown with brown streaks in it. Chevy had it figured just right. Out of warranty and now with 20K miles on it I'm looking at replacing the intake gaskets and flushing the cooling system and new antifreeze, my own nickel at this point. Their sawdust pills got it through the warranty just like they knew it would. Take a lesson here folks. |

Where do you people come up with those stories????? gees... are you kidding me or what? if it really went bad after 20k they'll fix it for free!! Some parts are even covered to 80k if you check. but if "you" messed it up some how, and i've seen weird shit in my time that people do to brand new cars than you are screwed pal! so please stop telling stories here! looks to me like you caused a leak in your radiator some how maybe trying to change something and pinched the rad.. now you don't feel like replacing it so you pured some of that crap they sell over the counter to stop leaks, hoping it will stop the leak... but darn that crap bonded to your engine cooling passeges, water pump and temp sensors which caused a poor cooling and wrong temp reading by the computer and thus causing overheating and head gasket failure!!!! Stop adding over the counter crap pal.. I'm sorry but it looks like your fault now! |

Dex-cool does not cause intake manifold gaskets to fail in 4.3 V6 engine. The manifold gasket is made of 2 different materials. One of the materials shrinks over time, losing it's sealing ability, hence the gasket starts to leak. DO YOU REALLY THINK a company the size of GM would put Dexcool in virtually everything it built (not just Chevy) since 1995 if it caused cooling system damage? Why dont 4 cylinders leak? Why not V8s? Do you know the billions it would cost GM in warranty costs? The would have stopped using it as soon as it cost them too much warranty expense. There is no such thing as a saw dust pill. GM (and other manufacturers) have used sealant tablets to seal small leaks since the 80's. It is an effective means to seal leaks between dissimilar materials. 2) GM will, can and does make what is called Policy adjustments based on a case by case basis. At my dealership we routinely go to bat for a customer with a valid out of warranty concern. I will tell you I'm more inclined to help a customer that A) bought the vehicle from us and B) gets the vehicle serviced with us. I have people all the time that bought a car from us, but goes elswhere for service to save a buck. But then they come crawling to us, with an attitude no less, that we owe them something. When Chevy calls to get the facts, I'll give them the facts AND my opinion about the situation. They do take into account how and where the vehicle is maintained, first or second owner, mileage and cost of repair among other things to decide if they will help. So your "out of warranty with 20,000 miles on it" statement tells me either you didn't talk to your dealer (see #2), didn't call Chevy (see #2, again) or did one or both of these things and got shot down for some reason. Re: GM Poll
The truth hurts in this instance, hurts GM that is. Bought the Blazer new, had it serviced at the selling dealer, when it started losing coolant I figured out that it was going into the crankcase, no doubter there. Dipstick was steaming, oil looking bad, heater core had air noise in it, lifters were making noise on startup and I could hear faint noise in the engine when running. OK, took it back to the selling/servicing dealer, had them check it and change the oil. They told me flat out "we won't be working on this, take it to another dealer, no need to bring it back here." I asked them if they even looked at the oil, "well no, I guess we didn't."
OK, we took it to a second dealer, they kept it for two days, called us and said it was fixed. Their fix was to add the "cooling system seal tabs" to the radiator. Curious, I went back to the parts department and bought a pack of them. They are in fact "sawdust" of a sort. Ground up nut shells and some other stuff that sounds like kitchen spices. Sealer did work as I said, lasted over a year and 5000 miles, still not leaking but the coolant is looking nasty. Now it's on me. So flame away some more if you like. I'm only stating fact here.We've owned over 40 GM vehicles, our first new one was in 77 (El Camino Classic, great machine too). Won't be another. |
