lets not even mention the fram filters, if its an oil filter, and comes in an ornge box *i know you got the one in the can, doesnt matter* throw it away and go to napa and get any other filter you want, fram uses teflon, which is bad for vehicals, and also will colg up easyly and not work if gunk is in your system

Re: Oil - What do you use?

Castrol 10w40 all year round and Purolator Pure One Filter (which has a discrepancy in the parts book... 1991 shows a different number than 88-90 for d16 but we all know the engines use the same filter... there is a "micronic" filter that's smaller, I just use the bigger one)...

a filter is a filter when it comes to oil, just because one is more expensive it doesnt mean its better. And if you changed your oil like you should then you wouldnt need some special filter. Just buy a major brand filter. But get one with a grip on it so that you dont have to fight for like 1/2 an hour to get it to loosen up.

no no no no no! a filter is not just a filter, they are made of different materials inside, cheep ones are made out of papper, and most of the papper ones are teflon coated, thats bad, you want a good one, made of fiber.

It doesn't give you better gas mileage it lubes your parts better. ON old engines this isn't always a good thing because carbon deposits often allow old rings to hold there seal. So when you break this stuff up you get a bad seal.

If you get a "new" motor (low mileage) or rebuild one [after 5k miles] I would suggest using synthetic.

just use some valvoline max life 10w- 30 or 10w-40, any of them high price oils will do you no good.
my motor had 225k on it when i put some synthitic oil in (messing around about to do a swap anyway) just to see what it could do....i spun a rod bearing that afternoon cuz almost all the oil blew out past the rings....
but in my new motor with about 35k on it i will use moble 1...and hope for the best...

never heard of synchromesh. i just followed my haynes manual's instructions and chose a 10w30 motor oil. gives me no problem, and i go way too fast over moderate distances (in excess of 100mph on the interstate when i'm late to school.... on a stock 15 year old crx engine with only one of those cheap-o cold air intake things on it. otherwise no mods.

does synchromesh have additives or something? i just picked a "high milage" oil that has additives and junk.
