If I geve P-owners a bad name then I guess you don't get it. I'm pretty approachable when I'm out on the highway but once I hear the garbage come out about how snobby P-owners are that's when I'm pretty much out of there.... "Yah, kind of like this...."

Yeah, I've heard of Pelican parts. For someone that sells parts parts to Porsche owners, your statment seems alittle condescending to non 911 owners. Gee, some people think you are a snobby Porsche owner? I wonder what would give them that impression. Perhaps you can explain to me what you meant in your original post because I guess "i just don't get it." It looks like I'm not the only one that didn't get it either judging by CrazyJay's reply. Here is what you said...could you plz clarify?

My comment was directed towards this statement, maybe it was lost in the translation. I was merely attempting to offer an alternative to those who were worried that Porsche was “killing it’s self” so to speak by the introduction of an alternate vehicle….

My statement to get an F-car was simply a “quip” reply, which I believe you read into just a little to far. Not a big deal though since I know that a lot could be lost in translation… Looking back I guess I could have quoted Crazy’s reply….

BTW: I’m considering the F-car now…. Not because of this NO, NOT AT ALL but because I’ve come across a decent deal and I’m just curious right now since it’s an F-Ferrari car….

Actually, I made that statement originally because if the rumors are true it seems the Cayman S will be a better sports car for less $$$ than the current 997. I think this is definately a good thing...getting more for less. This is all speculation so far so we will just have to wait and see. Anyway, thankyou for clearing things up...I got the impression that you thought the Cayman and boxster was "cheapening" the Porsche image simply because they don't cost as much as the 911 and as a result you wanted the prestige of the F badge. I really think in the end, quality and performance should be what defines a car not the price.

I can agree with your final statement as I'm asked almost once a week to compare the 911 to a Sub WRX sti..... "Oh brother..."

Just ordered an 06 Boxster S...

By end of summer, Ruf will have a 3.8 upgrade - Carrera S engine with Ruf-specific ECU and exhaust. Good for 365 to 370 HP. Not sure of pricng yet, but should be a lot of fun in that well-balanced car... A sleeper 997-killer.

I think it has more to do with than that....

I have a couple of vendors who created kits for the 986 within 97 only to find that many of the owners weren't reaching deep to purchase the kits.

On the other hand they also released kits in 99 for the 996 and have sold and have continued to sell a great deal.....

In their words... 996 drivers seem to have deepers pockets to play with and the 986 drivers are those who have only recently graduated to the Porsche water-cooled and who otherwise may only have money to make their payments.

One of the vendors expects to do some sort of release with regards to the 987 but the other has indicated that he wouldn't waste his time again and calls the 987 and the 986 the modern day 914 "what was refered to as The Poor Man's Porsche".....

Once again this is the feedback I was given, NOT my .02..... So don't shoot the messenger.

The cayman is a very nice car.....but no sunroof or convertable are available...of course the boxster is the convertable version.....but be honest...the boxster is kind of a womens car...sorry I am not trying to offend anybody...the car handles great and so does the cayman......BUT the 911---996 or 997 or even better the 993 are the true Porsches.....and when it comes to handling.....the cayman supposes to handle better than a 911...BUT in the end who cares? How often can you really drive the any car to their limit? Right never! The drivers limit is reached before the cars......
I am a very happy 911 driver and would love to have a F-car...but I just can't get over the way to high maintenance prices!

The boxster does have a "chick car" reputation in some circles. I think most of that stems back to the original car that had a rather feeble 2.5L engine. The rest of that misconception is probably due to the lack of a boxster coupe until recently. Some people see cabriolets as soft or girly which is funny because half of all 911s sold are cabbies. I think the boxsters rep has improved the last few years as people realize it's a quite capable car and can generate some very impressive numbers.
As far as the rear-engine vs. mid-engine thing, you don't have to push the car to the very edge to realize and reap the benefits of a mid-engine car. You would notice everytime you turn the wheel. However, alot of other Porsche owners and myself included autocross and or track their cars and the benefits of having the engine in the proper place can be felt there too. In fact, Porsche's future is leaning heavily torwards mid-engine technology. The 911 can only get so good with it's rear-engine placement and that is why the flagship Carrera Gt is a mid-engine car not a rear-engine car. Not that the 911 is a poor handling car....it's actually a very good handling car, it's just that mid-engine is better.
