well those cars are alot easier, because it still uses the old style body on frame chassis. they're very weak against twisting though. modern style cars that are light to middle weight and even really modern heavy weigh full size cars uses a unibody. i think unibody is waaay better. however if we strip our cars down, it will very be a naked rolling chassis like that. you would still see the passenger cage, with the roof, and the engine bay.

Its as hard as getting more air in and out of the engine, getting the right amount of fuel into the CC with that air, compressing it more, having a more complete combustion sequence, igniting the Air/Fuel mixture at the exact right time, lightening everything and anything, improving driver skill, getting power to the ground or traction, and being able to control this new found forward motion.

But to answer your first question, generally every 1lb/min of airflow is equal to 10hp. So to get more HP, you must get more air in and out of the engine along with the right amount of fuel and ignited at the right time. Its not rocket science, but it is. Same basic principles of accelerated particles applying force to an object thus making it move and turning that movement into work. Its energy converted to work. You are basically harnessing something powerful enough to destroy your engine and having it power your engine. Don't you think the right amount of supplies and punctuality are important?

Luckily companies have made parts that do most of this for us. But a simple saying can simplify what is to come.

Speed is all a quesion of how much you want to spend.
