That's killer
!Can't wait to see it finished and slushed-up. Maybe make one of the snowboards a bit wracked up and show a pair of crutches in the back seat w/one dude wearing a cast!

Re: In progress - Ski trip WRX
where'd you get such stuff, like the decals for the WP sticker, and the colorado license plate, and the rack. It's amazing! I'd also like to know how you did the salt and sand color on the paint.
who makes the WRX btw?

Re: In progress - Ski trip WRX
WRX = Tamiya. Ski rack, the horizontal bit at least = Aoshima S-parts Prelude. The vertical part that holds the snowboards is scratch. Winter Park decal = custom printed by a buddy. Plates = printed out on photo paper with my freakin' sweet new printer. Snowboards = scratch (check the how-to depository).
The salt and sand color was pretty simple, I mixed some Tamiya Khaki (XF-49) with a little bit of White (X-2) and less Sky Gray (XF-19). I didn't measure, I just mixed till it looked right, but it was probably 10:2:1. The result is pretty gross. Then I sprayed it with low air pressure, from a good distance, probably double my normal airbrush to model distance, and made very quick passes to avoid fast build up. I had to be careful not to overdo it, but I think I did anyway. Someone once said about weathering "Work 'till you think you need one more coat, then stop." That's what I did.

Busy weekend, have been working on the interior a lot. I used my airbrush for the interior (something I tried on the Fit for the first time) and I have to say, airbrush on interior = the greatest thing in the freakin world! The mask lines are perfect because of the low pressure and paint, plus, I can make all sorts of colors for contrast. I know you WRX folks are gonna fuss me because that blue seat inserts are way blue, but, I wanted contrast. I would have liked the gray plastic to be lighter, too, for even greater contrast to the black seats. But we can't win them all.
![]() ![]() Started work on the interior details, too. The duffle is three thick peices of styrene laminated on each other, and then covered in putty to make the shape. I used a narrow screwdriver to make the place for the straps, then made the straps out of masking tape I cut to width. The ski boots are cut off one of the girls from the Hasagawa Ski People set. The goggles are from the same set, and the "bottle" is from the Tamiya Rally Mechanic set. The man for the front seat is a rally machanic that I modified to fit in the seat, cutting his knees so his legs could be straighter, and reshaping where his legs mount together and to the torso. His arm is out because he will be changing the CD in the car radio. The girl is parts from my Preiser 1:24 Eve set, using the head from the Cusco girl because I liked the hair better. She will have a Colorado State Univ. T-shirt and jeans that I will have to make of putty. I might steal legs from a rally mechanic yet to make that easier. I will definately steal shoes from one for her, poor girl ain't got no feet. How she gonna ski?!?! Then I include a pic of how about they are all gonna fit inside. The girl will be holding the bottle. ![]()
