Re: Re: how quick would this setup be or quess

[quote=91civicDXdude]I ran 10psi every day for over 6 months on my stock block Y7/Z6 minime with no problems. it hauled ass.

An engines ability to handle boost is not limited by psi, but rather power output capability (can the rods/pistons/etc. physically take the power outputted by X amount of psi), and fuel and spark management. You can easily blow an engine with 5psi with imporper management, and can also as easily run 10-12psi on astock d series with proper management, although i wouldn't recommend more than 10psi daily.

Yeah this is the man to listen to. I was just saying 5-8 psi because aren't the d series rods only rated for 200hp?

you might run like 14s but also it depends on the driver if u are good at racing or not.

200hp is a good round number to rate them with, i personally would say they can handle maybe 250tops..but i will almost guarantee that you wont hit 200hp @ 8psi

in my personal experience, its not the rods that break (unless you boost a d15), its usually bearings that get spun, head gaskets blow, or you break ring lands from detonation.

Its all about management. A guy on www.homemadeturbo.com has an EG coupe with a stock block d16z6, and he hit 230whp @12psi, and ran a mid 12 in the 1/4.. he has very good management and probably doesnt run 12psi daily.

I state this from personal experience: As long as you have proper fuel and are not detonating (regardless of whether or not the engine is tuned for maximum power), then a d series can handle 10psi with no problem.

and as for this guy...

you have no idea what you're talking about. turbo lag has nothing to do with the distance raced, turbo lag is the time it takes the turbo reach full spool (maximum psi). with my setup, i reached 10psi by about 3500rpm (it could've been a lower rpm, but my charge pipes were unnecessary long and large in diameter)...the time you spend from idle to 3500 rpm is considered turbo lag. my turbo lag was not very noticeable, and usually wont be on any setup unless you have an abnormally large turbo.

Yeah management is the key. I plan on running 10.5:1 c/r Y8 with a turbo. Just will have to tune thr crap out of it.
