Re: Land Rover or Hummer
I thought Land Rovers were of better quality post-1994/1995 after the debut of the P38A Range Rover, 'cuz I thought they were built by BMW. BUt is that only for the Range Rover and not the Defender, Freeland and Discovery?

Re: Land Rover or Hummer
the LM, last i heard it does about 7mpg.....
and to think it lost the contract to the humvee. anyway. the new land rovers, discovery and range rover are nigh on indestructible. the old freelanders were a piece of poo that people bought because of radical (for the class) design and the badge. the top end vehicles from land rover were, are and always will be the only REAL deal off-road vehicle. |

Re: Land Rover or Hummer
Of the choices listed I would go with the H1 all the way, but if it was something under $100k I'd pick the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Re: Re: Land Rover or Hummer
You don't actually think BMW gave a shit about Rover, MG or Land Rover do you? They didn't, Ican't think of a single BMW component used in Land Rovers bar everything used in the 2001- Range Rover.
Ford are going to be good for Land Rover though, they made the Jaguar XJ series reliable, so the Discovery and Range Rover will fare well. I'd have a Mercedes Geladnewagen if I was going anywhere offroad, though. Way better than Hummers and Landies. |

Re: Land Rover or Hummer
I always thought that the Land Rovers, since the P38A debut had the BMW 740i engine in it, then the new Range Rover (MKIII) had the 745i engine it it, along with many similar electronics. I was in both a P38A and an MKIII and The P38A engine sounded alot like the 740i, and the LED displays and the button prinintgs looked alot like BMW, and plus I can tell autmoatically that the MKIII shared electrics and engines with BMW because of the Navigation design, the whole setup, the LED displays, and the button markings looked the same exact as found in a 2001 bmw 7-series

Quote:
Yes, the Current Range Rover is BMW designed, used a BMW engine until recently, uses a BMW NAV, the whole schtick. However that said, for going off road, The Hummer hands down, It is built to be hardcore and rugged and it does that with a passion. For everyday drivng the Range though.
