i have another question. How much does it cost to import cars from japan? like a type r?
It all depends on the car, some cars (like the GTR) cost more to get over here because you have to submit a huge complience package on them to get them in complience with EPA and DOT regulations. I haven't looked for any Type Rs personaly, but I can look around and find out for ya

Ok, it all depends on the car you want, some will end up costing more then others. In order to get your car street legal here in the US this is what must be done. You have to find and purchase your car overseas. Then you have to find a registered importer (RI) to do the work for you. After you've signed a contract with them (And payed them however much they charge for the car you want) then you have the car shipped, this is expensive . The RI picks up your car from the docks, after you have posted bonds and such on it (125% of the car's value I think... Not sure) and does the work to get it into line with DOT and EPA laws. Then they submit a complience package to the DOT and the EPA, after that and you have payed every one envolved you get your car

You might want to ask Sean because I'm sure he knows much better then I do how it works

To really make the US guys jealous my R32 GTR in Silver is @ $35,000 USD and is @ $35,000 NZD here. So half the price in US money here in New Zealand, though the government is trying to ban anything Pre 94 now. Bloody wankers!

Yeah, Skylines are limited to dreams for me too, for the time being. So are a lot of things, actually. But someday I plan to own an R32, the true Godzilla. By then, their price in Japan will be down, and there might even be somebody in the states willing to part with one.

Are you a Honda guy, MidNite? 'Cause you're SOL for the moment. Nobody's even planning on importing Honda/Acura as far as I know. And, rather than starving us completely of the sweet cars like Nissan does (Skyline, Silvia, Pulsar GTI-R), Honda just keeps the GOOD versions of their cars to themselves (Integra Type R - yes, they still call it Integra - NSX Type R, and the Del Sol with the convertible hardtop)! Oh well, you might be able to get a Lancer EVO VI in a few years...

Banning anything before 94 in NZ... THAT'S CRAZY! Why on earth would they do something like that? It's not like cars didn't have catalytic converters before 1994! Expalin this strangeness if you will.

haha, I donno, I saw that picture and I couldn't stop laughing at the little guys chasing the kitten Infact, just looking at my avitar makes me laugh :hehehe:

MidNiteMysT, yes it can be very expensive, and with the amount of red tape you have to file papers to get through is amazing. Thats the reason that not many people import their vehicles on their own, most just let an RI handle that. But that includes fees and profit for the RI, so it's a hassle either way you go

SOL stands for... Stark Out of Luck, or something like that. :smoker2:

R32 is the chassis code for the GT-Rs made between 89 and 94. They are the lightest of the GT-Rs, and I like their styling a lot more than the later Skylines (R33 and R34). And yes, the GT-R is the best.

So you like Hondas, huh? Well, everyone's entitled to an opinion, even if it's wrong. :sun: But, seriously, get yourself an Integra Type-R. Unless you can afford an NSX, it's the best Honda you'll find in this country.

Hey, there's noting wrong with a '96 Prelude VTEC. It's a great street car, and will leave a bad taste in the mouths of all the import poseurs who insist on racing you to the next stoplight. I think you'll be happy with one as your first car. Now if you get the Civic... uh... no comment.:smoker2:

lol whats wrong with a civic, i actually wanted to get that first. the 96 is gonna be so hard to find especially in white with stick and vtec and in good condition. im gonna have to compromise a little and might have to consider a prelude si or a 95 or a different color. where do u suggest i look to find the prelude.
