I do agree with your comments about replicas in general. But I guess it works for some people.
You could get close becuase you bought at car that was made for performance =)

My point is that you can't replicate a carbon fiber chassis, aluminum suspension arms, high performance tires, and a V12 engine that has a separate throttle body for each cylinder in your garage. That's some serious engineering that needs to go on there =)

If you want a sports car, you're better off buying one (or a kit car like the Ultima.)

Re: Replica

No it wasn't a replica it was a orginal but still my point is that alot of ppl like knowing that somthing they are driving is somthing they assembled or built. I guess alot of ppl just have pride in the car cause like i said part of them is in it. Sure your not going to break ne speed records like the orginal f1 you probably wont' put a v12 in it. Btw you forgot bout the attack its a nice little orginal kit.

Re: Replica

Saftey implactions i have no clue i don't believe the bodies get tested since most are just fiber glass that goes over or takes place of orginal body panels. As for speed most replica places dont' intended for there cars to break like 150 save for ultima who has there own wind tunnel and tests all the time. They compete in a UK racing series though.

Re: Replica

You can buy an ultima not just make one so its only sought of a kit car. The make it yourself kind seam scarey ever 150 cold be bad with the rong aero package and as for nothing but fiberglass protecting you! It all depends how well these things are done some "custom" cars i would be perfictly hapy to drive even thou in essance they are not to removed from kits something made out of plywood and tupperware well err.....

Just saw pics of the completed DDR replica. Very very McLaren-ish.

Seems like they need more work on the windows and headlamps.

Re: Replica

Bizarre. It's quite close to the F1 in many places.

There's another F1 replica being built in England. It will have a BMW 850 V12 motor, and the body will be identical to a real F1. I heard about it two years ago, and at that time I saw a picture of a body in primer. The guy who told me this used to work for the Harrods team. I haven't heard anything since, so I don't know if it's still moving forward. He had said that it would be tested at some track after it was complete. Obviously that hasn't happened, so it might have been abandoned by now. I hope it's just the typical delays that such "side" projects experience. They always seem to take years.

I have also heard of a similar replica that was built in South Africa, but I don't know if this is true. Anyone have info?

*cough* I think they mean a close copy of the McLaren F1 *cough*

Does this irritate anybody else?

If I were a betting man, I'd say the mirrors came off of a 3rd Gen RX-7.
