Re: Get some bass for your buck

You can pull more power from your amp with a sealed box and it is louder. But the vented box will hit lower notes. I guess it just depends what you want. Maybee it would be cool to have both?

Re: Get some bass for your buck

Vented is not ported, inside a ported box it goes speakers and then a little space and then the ports. A Vented box is made with traps so that the air is kept in the box for longer kinda like a maze and pretty much when the air comes out the port notice "One port" it pretty much explodes. Ask any proffesional what is better a sealed box or a vented box not dogin sealed boxes, I have a sealed box but if I had the money I would buy a vented box for my truck and like that other guy said its all in what you prefer..........But there is a huge difference in a Ported box and a Vented box

I would really like to know how using sealed will pull more power? I was told that sealed takes more power than a ported, but sealed will be tighter than a ported.

It would sure look tacky unless you had 1 box built that could somehow blend them both together and looked uniform.

it might just work though

Re: Get some bass for your buck

Well it doesnt actually pull more power. If you comapare two identical subs and amps at the same power rateing, the sealed box would be louder. I used to have two kicker comp vr 12's and a 240 watt kicker amp. Doesnt sound like much but i was hitting 141 db. There where some guys at the same competition that had way more speakers than i did and a couple thousand watt amps with vented, ported, bandpass boxes. Some of them only hit 145 db. Thats why i think sealed is the fail safe way to go...

Re: Get some bass for your buck

Maybe I need to up my ampage and get better speakers to improve my bass, cause my friends two ten's in a vented box with a shity amp and two Memphis subs "old school but good subs" makes mine weak any suggestions on amp and sub my sealed box is small so I don't have a lot of space for a big maginet?

Re: Get some bass for your buck

This has nothing to do with what we are talking about. But last night I had a dream, I don't remember alot of it but I had two square subs and in the middle they where orange pot leafs and the box was like 3" thick and had no slop just a rectangular shaped box. Sorry just thought I would share the weirdness.

Thats funny!!! I have two L7 10's. They sound great but i think you would have trouble fitting them. They have a big magnent. Maybee you could fit some 8 inch squares back there. They use less air space than a round sub so you can make a smaller box. The 8's would sound good. My square 10's are louder than the round 12's i used to have.

Duh

dblthebass, You should stop talking out of your ass to the people. I have built a vented box for my freinds 01 ext single cab, with a walmart sub and smoke you with a sealed L7 just to use the L7 as a good sub to compete with. Just don't tell people things that you do not know for a fact! I had worked at a Audio Xpert in Las Vegas and we held comps and sold and made most of the systems that won. Guess what not one of them had a sealed box. You could not pay for one of the amps it would take to push a sub in a sealed box enough to come close to placing. A vented box makes it so the sub that you have can produce more sound with much less strain. So a good sub like a 15 in a SLOT VENTED box will be able to produce much higher SPL so STFU!!!

Thank you! This guy doesn't get.Take for examaple. You have 200 watts and a 12in. sub.Put that sub in a sealed and it will hit very tight,on the other hand take a ported or vented with the same stuff and it will hit lower and louder.

Re: Get some bass for your buck

Hi guys,
I don't really know anything about the physics of speakerboxes and whatnot, but I thought I'd give you a pic of mine...

It is hard to see from the pic, but it is fully sealed by the lexan and rubber gasket in front of the speaker, but it has holes in the top behind the speaker. It's almost like someone tried to do that mix of sealed/ported box.

I have a somewhat cheap GMX-962 pioneer amp, but this thing sounds crisper and louder than my friends rockford fosgate with JL audio speaker and angled at eachother red velvet speaker box. My speakers are oldschool jbls, and I say oldschool because I haven't seen them anywhere else.

The subharmonic range on these things is amazing.
