Yep morgnum is right. You could've bought a 5-speed manual tranny GSR. Maybe you should've went to a different dealer. They are just pushing the GTA right now because it is the main production EVO. They are ready to make 2000 a month (24000 a year)!! They are wanting to keep the GSR, RS more exclusive for racing and sell the GTA to the mainstream public.

Hey, I would like to apologize. Due to my translation from japanese to english, I misunderstood. They still sell the GSR but the sold out the 2002 GSR in JUNE of 2001. I would have to wait till middle of 2003 to get a GSR, so I guess I will stay with the GT-A. The GT-A's are allready sold out for 2002. Sold out in less than a month. I could still get the RS but that would be less HP and torque and less otions. Plus it would be harder to get converted to state specs.

Sorry for the mass confusion. My japanese is not the best, it actually sucks.

What is the quoted 0-60, 1/4 mile and HP/torque figures for the GTA. And what is the performance as compared to the stock GSR?

The RS has the same amount of power and torque as the GSR, but like you said, bugger all options for it. Not really a crusing car.
But its the fastest out of the lot though.

Same suspension system.. actually supposedly refined to handle better on cornering.. I will let you know how it does.

Will write more later.. have business to take care of.

Have just gone to Mitsubishi's Japan website to find out more info on the GTA. Some of the facts:
- GTA is to increase its customer base to include those "not skilled enough" to drive the GSR hence its W5A51 type INVECS-II sport mode 5A/T autobox
-Power and torque is down. Torque is significant as it is quoting 343NM vs 383NM for the GSR
-Rigidity and Steering feel is enhanced with the addition of a reinforcement plate underneath while NVH insulation is enhanced
- it has a semi-sports bucket seat which is larger but set lower to hold bigger girth customers. Leather is an option. (Those with current EVO7 would know that reasonably chubby drivers are not well-suited to the current Recaro seats).
-Design-wise, the license plate is now centred instead of offset on the left. Apparently this enables better airflow and aerodynamics.
