Re: Question about gears?

interesting, i have 2.73s in my 305 (the 91' Z), what would i need besides the gears if i wanted to go to say 3.42s? also do you guys have any idea what kind of rpm i would see consistently with 3.73s? everyone tells me not to go that high, but is it really too high?

Re: Question about gears?

well not knowing entirely how the third gens are you dont need anything extra at all. most companies that make gear sets make them for both series 2 and 3. when you order them you just have to get the ones for your given carrier...

Re: Question about gears?

argg, i have the equation for this back home. as far as increase in rpm speed on the highway. Anyway, if its a daily driver its a question of reality. yeah the 3.73 and 4.10's are fun at the track, but on the road, just not reasonable. 3.42's are the best balance of fun and practicality. i myself am putting 3.27 gears in my IROC instead of the 3.45 gears that are available.

as far as what else you would need to do to swap out the gears. I have never heard of the gear sets for either 2 or 3 seriese carriers, but its definatly something to look into, because otherwise, you will have to replace not only your gear set, but your carrier as well. With 2.73 gears, you will have a 2 seriese carrier, to upgrade to anything above 3.08 you will need a 3 seriese carrier unless you get the special gear sets.

Re: Question about gears?

yeah, when i was shopping for gears for my rear i found out that most of the companies out there make sets for 2-, 3-, and even 4-series carriers. i would recommend richmond if you buy new ones, but strange sells em and i think motive does also...
