and just for shits and grins: the bible actually does, in several places, allude to the fact that the earth is flat, saying several times "the four corners of the earth" "the ends of the earth" and also mentioning that someone laid a measuring tape across the face of the earth (god i assume).

Re: Relationships vs religion

If you hate gay marriage, why can't I hate religion?

Re: Relationships vs religion

About mormons. I used to have a good friend that was a mormon. I say used to be because the main reason we lost friendship was his constant obsession with the faith. On several occasions attempted to convert me to mormonism(even though i don't believe in organized religion). Did this by inviting me to parties and such(in reality, church meeting offgrounds). The decan allowed me and my friend to take out his $50,000 boat alone in hopes that he could buy my faith. Along with this I was shown the "safe-room" (steel-reinforced room) in their basement that I could be in when the apocolypse occurs, if i joined the church. I am extremely tolerent, but Mormonism is the only religion that i have no tolerance for due to their "recuriting". Once had two mormons walk up to my front porch while a friend and I were just chillin drinking a few beers, and they told us we had no meaning in our lifes because we were drinking and smoking. Told us if we ever wanted to find meaning and the right path in life, to give them a call. Upon this, I asked them for their names and home addresses so I could come to their house and attempt to sell them on no-religion. They responded a snotty NO and left. You believe what you wanna believe, thats all cool with me. When you come to my house and tell me I'm a worthless piece of shit, then I have serious problems with you and your so called religion. Peace-

Re: Relationships vs religion

I had a Morman tell me that blacks are the devils that were kicked out of heaven, and that only white men could be elders in their cult, er church. I then asked him if that's the case, why does Brigham Young University have so many black and Samoan football players? He got pissed and never talked about it again.

All religions recruit, some send people to foreign countries to tell primitive cultures that they're all going to burn in hell too.

Well maybe its because I live in the suburbs, but the only people i have knocking on my door telling me to convert is the f***ing Mormons. I don't believe in organized religion mainly over the fact that i am an extremely logical person and i have yet to be proven of any good things to come out of religion. Except, religion generaly helps those that are terminaly ill and familys accept death more easily. How can death be morbid if you've got a nice bright white place to go where people got wings and shit?-Peace

^Isn't bush an evangelist?

Its true, Mormons are the only ones that knock on my door. It seems like their faith is to convert people.

Re: Relationships vs religion

look, ive had run in with mormons from all walks. they run the spectrum just like any other religion. you've got the crazies knocking on your door, and youve got the more down to earth ones.

yes, mormons and jehovas witness's tend to get a little fiesty...i had a couple o mormons come into my work (mind you, i work at target) and tell me i was going to burn in hell if i didnt quit, because we didnt carry the book of mormon on our shelves.

but my good buddy happens to be dating a mormon chick, and she's as cool as be about it. granted, she does think im going to hell because i drink and such, but she's not in my face about it, and she doesnt try to convert me or anything.

Re: Relationships vs religion

Yeah, if the faiths are similar but different, not too bad. But the bible says "Thou shal not be equally yolked with a non-believer" talking about different religions...if that makes a difference to you. I know personally to me, it is a huge deal and I wont be with anyone who is not the same, cuz that is what I base my life on. If she cant believe it as well, then it wont work.

Just my personal opinion and how I play it out.

Re: Relationships vs religion

Moving along from the religion bashing, lol.

I can really relate to this topic because I'm a Muslim seeing a Christian. We're both faithfull to our religion but that does not discourage us and our relationship. We have been going out for nearly 2 years and are very much in love. The only part where it gets hard is "future" talk, and by that I mean the times where she wants to bring up, where we see ourselves in the future.
Of course the big thing would be the marriage issues and how culturally different we are and whether or not we are working towards anything, but I tell her that I dont know and neither do you and that we can work something out if we really want it to happen. So until then it is not an issue for me and I think it's rather complicated to deal wth these matters.

Re: Relationships vs religion

Mormons...

They have the people in the suits walking down the street with the soul purpose to try and convert people right then and there...or at least get them to think about it. Sure there are other religions, such as evangelism who talk to you about their faith. But they do not shove it in your face like my personal experience with mormons.

They to me personally, seem pushy and they are trying to elevate themselves in their "organization" to a point that when they die will be higher than other.

Many people I know are mormons and are going to go on their "mission" to do exactly that.

The mormon faith is not reall that bad, other than the fact is is all based on self gratification, self actualization...and basically "all about me" approach.

Other religions raise a greater power, God, Buddah, etc and worship them and tell people accordingly.

The way mormons "get into heaven" or become a god themselves all based on works that they do on earth, which I do not see right, other than that I can agree with many, if not most things that mormons stand for.

Just my thoughts...

Re: Relationships vs religion

Don't most religions base the entry of heaven on the actions that you have done on earth and how you life was spent?
