Re: I'm giving it up

The important thing is that you recognized that it was becoming a problem; awareness of a problem is the first step to solving it. I won't say good luck, because it's not luck but your decision to make; and you've made it.

Re: I'm giving it up

Congrads man. My uncle had a problem with alcohol and it got to the point that a judge offered him the choice or joining a rehab program or 60 days in jail. The one thing he did tell me was that is is easier to quit " cold turkey" rather than try to ease yourself off of it, one drink may seem like a good idea but one can turn into 15 really fast. Each to his (or her) own i guess. I would not recommend lieing to your friends about it though, tell them the truth so they know whats going on and can help support you and not tempt you to drink. I addmit I used to have a drinking problem myself and it wasnt until I got the support of a fellow AF'er that I was able to stop, I dont think she knows just how bad it was for me but she did help me alot. If you want to talk about it feel free to PM or IM me on AIM, Yahoo, MSN, it doesnt matter. Im here to help if you want it.

Re: I'm giving it up

i can respect that, its really self control that you need to worry about. i'm not sure that it's just the alcohol.

Re: Re: I'm giving it up

Well ghostguy, your friend was an alcoholic... I don't think Josh is quite there yet from the looks of things. But I could be wrong, I hate to assume. Being an alcoholic goes beyond self-control, thus the only option is 'cold turkey', but if you can still resist, it doesn't hurt to work your way down the ladder.

It was my uncle and he is far from a friend to me. I was only drinking for about two or three months, i really dont remember much of it but i do know that the call of alcohol can be pretty strong, Ive been sober for 6 months now and i still get tempted at times......

Me too man. I didn't drink often, but when I drank, I got my ass drunk for sure. I am also going on about 6 months of no drinks and will admit that there have been times where I just wanted some booze.

Your doing great man. My mothers side of my family is full of acoholics, as well as my own uncle, and from my fathers side is a great tollerance from alcohol, so I am somehwere in the middle. I crave it but I can just as easily walk away without a second look.

One important fact is to never drink when your feeling misserable... drink while having a good time.

Drinking while feeling like shit is setting yourself up to be an alcoholic and I'm sure no one wants to do that anyhow.

Even before I started drinking the sheer thought of alcohol made me misserable, Ive lost so many friends because of there drinking or someone elses drinking. Everytime I saw a bottle it was like someone giving that knife in my heart an extra turn, until one day I finally just said fuck it and gave in

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Ill shut up now

i have an uncle in poland whos a REAL alcoholic.... he's fucked up, he acts like a crackhead, he's liek 45 still lives with his mom, always in and out of jail.

My dad and uncles say that even when they were like 14... they'd go stop at the store to buy some chocolate bars or some shit and he'd be buying beers/vodka.

He goes out at like 7am to his spot with the other alcoholics and drinks, they get in fights all the time, drink the cheapest shit (like 40s but its cheaper and has like 16%)

Honestly... they're just like crackheads, they're fucked

I got an uncle you could consider an alcoholic here in america, he drinks everyday but he's cool. He doesnt get out of control, does his job right, goes to stripclubs, drives a benz

He's early 40s but he's like one of my boys, i love him... he doesnt have any kids so he treats me kinda like his son/friend.

Re: I'm giving it up

I am proud of you for stopping the binge drinking. Its a good way on to a newer and healthier you.

I haven't had a drop of alcohol to drink, since february 1998, 6 months after I found out a friend of my committed suicide due to alcohol.
