if, per the numbers noted here... it runs similar 0-60 times, and same quarter, how is it slower???
please explain that one...

what i was saying is that the vette has always been refined, a doctors car, if you will, while the mustang is the punk kid who wants to prove somethings car...
remember, the vette and mustang are not in the same park, and just b/c the price is higher, doesnt mean that the r and the zo6 are in the same league...

if the mustang is compared to the camaro, then the r should be compared to the ss camaro... which it will kill, but that doesnt mean it cant be compared to the zo6...

but it isnt always slower, and the handling is similar...
just read back and tell me that when the numbers that are quoted are identical or similar, how is it "slower"?

Here is the Z06:
It does 0-60 in 4 seconds flat, a quarter of 12.5 seconds, and gets 1 g. It is also 10 grand less than the cobra R
Well, I consider half a second faster in 0-60 as being pretty substantially faster. And, i seem to recall a comparo in which the Z06 managed the second fastest lap around the track, behind only the Modena, and even in front of the "all-mighty" turbo. Now, if it can compete so well with cars like that, I'm sure it can compete with a Cobra R.

Now, I don't quite understand your argument about the class distinction. The Z06 is a high-performance production car, whereas the R is a heavily tuned, stripped Race car. These cars are definitely in the same class...if nothing else, the R is in a higher class because it is more expensive and in such limited production.

Finally, I hardly doubt that the R really handles well enough to make up such difference in quickness. I haven't driven either, but I'm making an assumption here. And, even if it does, like I said you could just slap on a few after market parts on the Z06 and make up for it...and probably more.

It is ludicrous to compare a Cobra R to a SS. Lets see, 55 grand vs 25 grand, 300 made vs. thousands. Compare teh SS to the SVT Cobra, where the SS wins (all the mags agree with me)
Normally, the vette and mustang are not in the same park. But when you make a racer mustang, they are. I have tried (mostly successfully) to not have any brand loyalties that overcome the facts. Perhaps you, flylwsi, should do the same. The Vette is far better (and just because you can drive it every day doesn't make it a 'doctors car'.)

PS, Cobra R's will cost you more like 70 grand to get, thanks to speculators and greedy dealers.

And I won't be surprised when the price for a used Cobra R reaches 100K. I mean, look at the 93 R and the 95 R...tought to find, and when you do, expensive. So, I guess that's a benefit of the R...it's such a collectible that it will only go way up in price. Then you could sell it and buy a Z06.

Or two Z06's, or a Z06 with twin-turbos (lingenfelter) or a Z06 and a 3-series.

even though the cobra is the best looking stang...with the hood and spoiler and stuff....the z06 is faster and i would rather lack a little bit of good looks to perform better , i mean the z06 is one bad ass looking car..it beautiful! ...the cobra r is fast but it cant quit catch the z06..thats why the z06 was matched and is always put in pairs with the viper performance wise..now we all know the viper would beat the z06 ....but lets be honest...the z06 is closer performance wise to the viper that the cobra r!...the mustang cobra r and saleen (not the pussy 281 shit)..are the only mustangs i would'nt totally rag on...roush stage 3 isnt even that great!

considering the price, anyways.

And don't be so quick to dismiss the Z06. At 3.9 seconds 0-60, its faster than any viper out there (except for the race ones for the street, but they're 250K, so lets not even consider them).

I agree with that, the Z06 looks too smooth and is already showing itīs age.

chris...
i am not brand loyal.
i am sick of people who think that vettes are god. end of story.

the cobra r handles awesome, at least from what i read.

and keep it real... i own a honda and a chevy s10.
im not loyal to ford, but the cobra is a hella nice car, even though it is really exclusive...

but either way...
comparing the ss with the r simply meant putting the mustang into its "territory" as a pony car. but i didnt say it was fair. pitting it against the zo6 isnt either... but that is svt's fault for wanting to challenge the vette... they wouldnt let mags test it against it if they thought it couldnt compete...

The fact of the matter is,Ford hasnt really been doing much for performance wise in its cars, now comparing a 2000 car to a 2002 is a little odd..Ive read that the vette and R times are practically the same and the R beat both the viper and vette on the track. It really depends on where you look..some magazines are biassed anyways.
The 99 S351 is faster than vette and viper ...that should be comparison .The R looks better and sounds better.

Hey, a new guy here. I just want to say I have an 02 Z06 and it is an awesome car. It can do anything the Cobra R can do and do it easier and for less money. The Z06 is easy to drive fast and the engine is so torquey and forgiving. Real world 1/4 mile times are very low 12's and even a few high 11's STOCK! I like the Cobra R and even wanted to buy one, but the Z06 was the one I bought and remember, the 02 has 405 hp and torque. I think the money differance is the biggest factor in gong with the Vette. One of the things that also makes the cobra R great is the limited number,so down the road it will be worht alot more money, thats also one of the reasons why its more expensive than the vette.
Dont get me wrong..I like the vette alot but honestlyy i rather have a cobra R...

I would opt for the Cobra R. Just something about owning one of 500 or so cars in existence. It wouldn't even bother me that it has no radio, no air conditioning etc. I am a tad biased however...

I wouldn't mind if the Cobra R really was race ready, but it still has power locks and power windows!!!!
