thats odd. becasue V-TEC doesn't just rely on RPM to engage. it also looks at throttle position i believe. that being said, it must be computer controlled. i'm sure there are sensors in the tranny that will let the ECU know thats in reverse. since the car is in reverse and the ECU knows it, i don't think it would work unless honda engineers missed that point when designing the car.

but what do i know? its just a theory, if someone tried it and it works, then it works.

VTEC engagement relies an many factors. Being, RPM, Throttle, Speed, Oil Pressure, Engine temperature etc...

Your car has to be moving at least 13mph, your car has to be warmed up, oil pressure has to be high enough, you need to give at least (i believe) 50% throttle, and you have to be at VTEC engagement rpm's.

So in theory, if your car was warmed up, and you could hit 13mph in reverse before your rpm's hit engagement point (in my car its 5200rpm). VTEC would engage.

H22a Redline is 7800rpm's so there's a good chance you can get to 13 by then.

First off, who started this "he wants to race in reverse" garbage?
Who said anything about that? As I stated before, this is just a stupid engine physics question.
