I dont know about the length, but the new stang looks shorter. Good for drifting. One car you will never see in a drift compitetion is a 2005 acura RL. LOL, that car is sweet but handles too good.

Actuallt the 05 chassis is longer and wider than the previous fox/fox4 chassis.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

the drifting article is in this months mmff. It would be awsome though having alot of demestic cars drifting.
I think why so many ppl do it is bc its a huge adrinline rush they dont care to much about the scores and judging but care about the crowd going wild and haning sideways at 80 mphs is gotta be a rush.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

one thing i wonder is why people love v-8s sooooo much? They do put out enormous torque and hp, but a well tuned IL4 or 6 can rock the house too, while not loosing the gas miliage. putting 20$ in every 2 weeks is way better than 1 week. Granted a v8 will have a higher out put than any v6 or IL4, but for driving and some street racing the smaller engines rock. I do love the V8 but in these days with new technology to put alot of hp out of small engines it makes u wonder why american car companys havnt caught on? I had a 5.0 with 197, weak yes.. also came out of a crown vic, but if u look at the new rsx type s engines they have 210hp out of a naturaly asperated IL4 thats hella crazy. plus they dont have stupid amounts of torque where it stops them. Well enough engine ranting ^^

Why do people love V8's well use this comparision an S2000 has a 290hp 4-cylinder, on a good day the can break into 13's. The new 05 GT with a V8 makes 300hp the stick cars are gonna be in the mid-low 13's ina much bigger/heavier car, does that explian it?

Power == low fuel mileage.
The 2005 GT gets 18 mpg, a 2005 Mitsubishi Evo gets 18 mpg, a 2005 Scoobie-Doo WRX Sti gets 18 mpg... Get the trend here?
I like V8's because they consistently make alot of power all of the time. My C230 Kompressor is nice in the mornings, but slugs along in the heat.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

there is that thing called torque, yes... the v8s have more torque. thats why it goes farther down the track faster, but domestics kinda have been sucking on the quality with in the past 20 years. you may have your awsome domestic hp, but i love the reliablity of imports.

O.K. O.K.
I see.
Now you're just trying to provoke another Formula 1 vs. NASCAR fight.

Let the flaming begin!

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

My v6 04 mustang impressed my friend who drives an 03 WRX impreza in handling. I agree though, more torque and power is better than lightness and suspension.

The new mustangs are amazing! I live in michigan near the detroit area so i am lucky enough to have seen some amazing cars in the past few months. In september right after i got my 04 V6 AutoStang i was driving on I-75 from toledo ohio back to michigan and an 05 Mustang GT with Manufacturer plates on it flew by at around 120mph and a guy in a little honda civic wearing a proud VTEC sticker tried to catch up. I caught up to the GT mustang (had to go up to 110MPH after he slowed down) and i road next to it for about 10 mins in aw of its beauty. (sometimes i wish i waited for the new mustang but since i got the A plan on my 04 V6 it was only 14 grand and couldnt pass up the offer) (who woudlnt take a free 5,500 dollars?). I also live down the street from the Ford GT (GT40)/Lincoln LS/ thunderbird plant and have drove next to a Ford GT before on the highway. I don't know why it was driving around, must have been because they deliver them personaly to the delear ship or some employee snuck out with one. ( i would've :-) )

I agree that a mustang (stock) cannot beat a stock LS1, the only thing that can beat an LS1 is an LS1 in a corvette :-). My mom has one of those but i dont get to drive it much :-(, my mom must love either me or her car because if i drove it, both of us would be dead. However a V6 mustang can beat a Z28 if you put enough money into it, which i am sure is obvious to anyone.

What about the weight distribution issue? I'm not too sure what the distribution is on those Sivia's and 240's but I bet it is a lot better than that of the Stang. I think it would be very difficult to give it the same handling charicteristics of those tiny, light imports that dominate the drifting scene. BTW, does anyone know how the GTO and Viper are fairing on the drift circuit?

What proportion should the vehicles weight be distributed in order to slide sideways with the power to the rear? 60/40, 50/50, 40/60
