Re: ...... a 1.8T hung with me on the highway.
Well first off, I failed to see what the S2K reference had to do with anything, but that aside, as was mentioned, GTIs are mod-happy. Half the guys at my work have Jettas and all they talk about are teh GTI with intake, mbcs, exhaust, and chips. The cars respond well to mods, and even though he didn't have exhaust or a boost gauge, there is no way to know how much his car was tuned/boosting. I've actually been surprised by a few GTIs performance...killed them all, but they still did better than I expected.
However, the only one I've road in struck me as having pretty short gearing, so I never thought they would move much up top. Either way, you beat him in real life, and you're getting more boost...so there's nothing to worry about. Good race

alright i'll explain it step by step i'm on the clearview expressway merging on the long island expressway. this merge is a medium speed right hand turn followed by a short straight i was in 4th going 80 mph before i entered the turn, it heel toed down to 3rd and entered at around 60mph. i upshifted back to 4th at around 80mph on the straight portion of the merge until i saw a slow moving car in my way ( goin around 60mph ) i had to hit the brakes and heel toed back to 3rd because i fell off my powerband in 4th becuase it was only one lane and hes hogging it up goin 60mph. after i heel toed back to 3rd at around 60mph i was back into the beginning of my powerband and i was ready to go. that should be through enough for you i hope

I would expect the ECU, and the Injectors to make a pretty big difference. Those wheels are probably a pretty big killer too though. I've swapped in my stock wheels after driving on my 17's, and it was like a whole new car. But the 17's are back on since it's winter I don't expect to be doin too much.

Re: ...... a 1.8T hung with me on the highway.
Actually a guy named orion on some of the other forums is running 12psi. He's laying down 13.3s. Don't you hate the limiters?
(EDIT): I guess you already knew that. Just came back from NICO.lol

orion is running 13.3 but hes also trapping at 110mph. and running 2.3 60ft times. at those speeds, his car is capable of high 12's.

Re: ...... a 1.8T hung with me on the highway.
there's really no reason to race to 120mph...that's ridiculously fast. Go from a dig, race to 90-100mph and that's all that needs to be done.

120mph is nothing. esp when your starting from 70mph. when my friends normally race, its till around 130-140mph. i hit my limiter without even realizing casue i can honestly hit 120mph pretty quick and it sucks taht even a old 90 accord will have a higher top speed then me.

Once I get a chip, 120 will be nothing for me, lol. Right now, 129 is my max.

You sound like you think your car is an unstopable force when in all reality I would probably beat you. He deff had a chip which removes the stock 1.8t's limiter and raises boost etc, intake, exhaust and a dp can make huge differences on them. companies make cat backs for gti's that look relitively stock, he probably had one, but it looked stock to the non vw enthusiast. some chips allow them to boost up to 20psi and I have raced acouple I beat one and lost to a few others, people who know what they are doing with them make them damn fast.

he passed me after i couldn't go anymore. then he hazards me taking the win. ( now that is ricer in my opinion, becusae i was clearly pulling on him ) he just beat me casue i had that stupid limiter. if i kept on goin till 140, i would've easily have over 10 cars on him. and yes you might beat me. i will not deny that. judging from yoru trap speed, our top end is very similar. however i was pulling on him. and if you read what i said, i said that he has no exhuast. it was a stock one. so i was curious to see if anyone chips 1.8T's without doing an exhuast first. another example of how this guy is. like how 2001Z28LS1 was racing a civic on the highway. after LS1 pulled on him in his evo and stoped. the civic passed him and hit the hazards. thats exactly how i felt. hes probrably talking maaad shit right now too. and thats what pisses me off. i know i gave you teh impression that i think my car is unstopable. but its not, i know damn well its not cause i can't even beat my friends EVO From a roll. i know what my car is capable of beating. however it was when he passed me and i saw a stock. that was what made me do a triple take.

To put that in perspective, it would take you well over 1/2 mile to get from 70 to 120. **your "heel-n-toe" scenario still makes no sense by the way. Using terms out of context and/or rewriting scenarios to try to make them work is what makes civic's comment accurate IMO: Quote:

well me and all my friends are probrably heel toeing at the wrong time then.
i'm not tryin to sound like a dick or anything, but i was always under the impression that you heel toe on a straight before you enter a corner. this way you'll be in the power band during the turn and help you power out of the turn. but i guess that is not when it is used. since i'm not the technique incorrectly, when would be a scenerio where i would use a technique like that? i know its not exactly useful on the streets, but i just want to know the correct way for the sake of atleast knowing the truth to it. remember i'm not tryin to sound like a smart ass, i just want to know when that tech would be applied. and to civichb i mean just try to be in my shoes. i lost 20whp. i'm still tryin to figure out where it disappeared to. i did a compression test and the engine is perfect. i have no boost leaks and i'm still running 9 psi. so for me to lose 20whp out of thin air really bugs me. and to add insult to my injure a deceptively stock looking 1.8T kept up with me, and when i hit my limiter he hazard me. if it was just some car in the street that i would never see again. okay fine, but i see this guy around sometimes and thats what makes it harder. i can't just give a win like that. but i guess thats the mentality of someone who races in the streets. if i really live that close to english town i would definitly go there more often and know what my car really runs. or even better, just go road racing. but i have no access to any of that so this is what i have to deal with. also about my car taking over 1/2 mile to hit 120mph from 70 mph or over 14 seconds maybe true. but when your just focusing on the road ahead of you, your not really worried about how long it takes to reach a certain speed. but more focused on whats ahead of you. and by saying that. from the time we hit 120mph i wasn't even go from 1 exit to the next. and since your from around the tri state area, your aware that the exits on the highways in nyc is around 1 mile apart. so it honestly didn't feel like that long of a race.
