Yep, thats one of the drawbacks of an Xterra.
It's not all doom and goom though, I get about 17.5 with 50% highway/50% city.
The highest I've gotten is 20 driving from Vegas to Salt Lake.
The Lowerst was 12 all offroad.

I'm lucky in that I live so close to work. So if I spend money on gas it's to go out and have fun outdoors in the truck. Because of that I don't mind dropping $20 for a full day of fun (how much is a movie and popcorn nowadays?) But with all the steel I've added to my truck I wouldn't be a happy camper commuting in it.

Try 6.231 gallons for 62 miles, 9.95 MPG 4-lo almost the whole time. And then Schlud stole my truck for 5 minutes so technically he owes me a dollar. Cough it up freak.

Gee Thanks,

Now you all have made me think about mileage, gas, money, miles, etc.

- Since I have 55K on my truck
- and get about 14 mpg
- that's at least 3,928 gallons of gas I've burned in the last 21 months
- at a conservative avg of $1.25 per gallon
- that's $4,910.71 paid for in gas

Shit, thanks guys. Now you've got me all depressed and thinking if I drove a POS little car back and forth that 100 miles daily, I would have had a lot more mods on my truck by now.

Mine is a 2000 v6 auto.

If you don't have a supercharger, you have one of two problems. Either the air/fuel ratio isn't correct and you're blowing fuel out the tailpipe or your driving technique may need some adjustment.
I figured the same. Thats why its been to the dealer twice. Both times they ruled out everything but "driving style" I've just accepted that my Xterra gets crappy gas mileage. Although it bugs me that Im the only one consistantly getting less than 12mpg. As far as my driving style goes I will take some of the blame however some of my trips are long club Xcurssions, even then, driving in line with the group, I get bad gas mileage.

I have a 2002 supercharged X and I get 10mpg in 4 lo and 14 -15 the rest of the time but......my full size GMC with a 5.3 litre V8 got 16 driving around town and 19-21 on the freeway. The X is much more fun to take off road though, it doesn't take a city block to turn around!

It gets these figures consistently. It's my wife's daily driver (around town-all the time) and every week I check the mileage, and it's 12.4. When I drive it to work (80 miles RT, freeway) I go with the flow, which is typically 60-70, it consistently gets 23 to 23.6.

1st Tank

I just put in my first tank in my 2002 SE/SC and I got 13.53 mpg. Not bad considering I used the entire rpm range a lot to begin to break in the engine. But I haven't put my ARB or Full skids on yet. I am hoping it won't effect my mileage too much but I am probably kidding myself.

My 2 cents,

SarnX.

PS I just picked up my X yesterday and I am having a ball. No real offroading yet but I did do a bunch of "No winter maintenance beyond this point" roads and did get it quite muddy. A lot of fun.

I will also post a picture of my 2002 with the ARB which goes on Thursday.

How's that saying go? A fool and his improperly broken in engine are soon parted?

Confused?

Superjens,

I am a little confused by your reply. Do you think it is good to use the whole rpm range or bad? I was always told that when breaking in an engine to use the whole rpm range and to not leave the engine at the same speed (rpm) for prolonged periods of time.

Input is always good.

Thanks,

SarnX.
