Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

TRD2000,

To the best of my knowledge, Greddy does not manufacture turbochargers, they market and package turbo’s for the consumer market.

I'm not positive who makes each of these turbos. However, TD05 is a MHI model number, (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries).

Below is a link that gives you all the major turbo manufacturers and their most popular model numbers.

http://asp.turbo.com.sg/agencies_mitsubishi.asp

BTW, here's a link to some inscriptions on the turbo housing from various EVO's.

http://homepage2.nifty.com/evoevo/lan/turbo.htm#諸元

BTW, the "big 16G" turbo used on the EVO8 should be good for 350+ crank HP. So, I personally, would have the turbo upgrade pretty far and many $ down the upgrade list.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

Well, from what know Greddy is owned or is called Trust in Japan. I'm pretty dure you might have got them confused, because I know that there turbos are on lots of famous Japanese cars, like TOP SECRET's Supra (with the MR2 engine in it) has a Trust turbine. Also JUN's Supra has a Trust turbine.

Like I said though, I'm not sure if Trust owns Greddy, or Trust is Greddy but, I do know they are very closly connected, and I'm pretty sure Greddy is Trust.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

close enough to the same company. I think stanimal is right, just market them. HKS market Garrett turbos, i heard something about subaru using mitsubishi turbos, so maybe they are manufactured by mitsubishi industries and solt by trust/greddy??

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

No, TRUST me Trust/Greddy do make there own turbos. They are a big name company, and they wouldnt use Mitsubishi's turbos. In fact, I heard rumers that the Evo's turbo comes from HKS. I would ask my friend at RPMmotoring.com, but there site is down. I'm sure they would know, but untill then I cant get in touch with them. You can call dealers and ask them that question though.

I'm sorry, but I find that extremly hard to beleive. I'm 110 % that they make there own turbos.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

look up mitsubishi heavy industries. I think you'll find that they manufacture their own turbos. I found a page which compares garrett, mitsubishi and KKK.

Blitz use KKK
HKS use Garrett
Greddy/Trust use Mitsubishi

as an example, check out
http://www.greddyturbofaqs.com/Greddy.htm
its for the mazda miata but its a greddy turbo/turbo kit. It explains that the kit is based arount a mitsubishi turbo.

next. Greddy may be a major name in car performance, but ot in manufacturing, nor are they a major financial player. I work for an engineering co. and mitsi make EVERYTHING just about, you'd be surprised.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

I guess they do. But, you can see why I found it hard to beleive at first right? Look at HKS, they been around since the 70s, and still never made there own. It says that that particuar turbo is based off of a Mitsubishi turbo. And I'm not sure about this, but KKK is a type of turbo (I think......why would a companie call there selves KKK unless rednecks owned it). And if they dont, why dont the other makers take the credit of the turbos.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

Evocrazy,

Pretty much everyone over 12 in the US associates "KKK" with the Ku Klux Klan. However, this is not the case in Europe and Japan. The Ku Klux Klan is an organization pretty much limited to the American South East.

As KKK turbolader (turbocharger) are mostly found in European cars, I would guess it's a European turbo manufacturer. The following link shows which manufacturer’s turbo the major auto manufactures use.

http://www.krausmotor.de/turbolader/alfa.htm

In regards to HKS, I would be very surprised if they sold more then 10,000 turbo's a year. HKS might be a big player in the after market, but the number of turbo's they deal with are tiny when compared to the volume produced by the major turbo manufactures such as Garrett, MHI and KKK.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

they are making enough money on factory cars, and lets face it thats where there is money to be made, i'm sure if you were the boss at a car co, or in charge of picking a turbo for their new engine, those company's would be taking a lot of credit. its just not worth it for them for the small aftermarket volume. Having said that i'm getting a garrett for mine instead of any of the kits from HKS or greddy. also, check out the KKK symbols on some of the old race porsches, if thats not taking credit....
