i very hesitently (sp?) voted yes. i think they would screw it up (mitsu has been screwing up a lot lately other than the evo coming to america) but i have allways thought it would be really cool if they brought it back with:

a ~3.8L V8
a drivetrain that was AWD and could handel 1000 hp (maybe variable like the skyline's)
stock turbos were TD05 about the size of a 14B
stock injectors were 550 cc
stock intercoolers a bit bigger
99 style with slightly updated interior and exterior pieces, nothing drastic, maybe some aluminum trim and a hood scoop
slightly lighter, maybe in the 3500 lb range
2 seats

and built to compete with vipers, not 350Z's. new price in about the $65k range or less if possible. that would be my dream car right there.

Re: Bring Back the 3000Gt?

It would be very hard to make it lighter yet have a biger engine and tranny.

the tranny would not necessarily need to be very much bigger, just made with better material/design (this goes for tranny, t-case, etc) and, well, yea, the engine would need to be a bit bigger. i do not think the tranny itself is acctually that big of a problem (other than part availability and mitsu techs that know what to do with it) but there are a lot of driveline componenets that could fail due to power that need to be redesigned. but i think it is overall a cost and luxury question. they could do things like CF body panels, aluminum drive shaft, lighter (and probably more expensive) materials for a lot of stuff, lighter seats (less power seat movement) less power options overall (seats, pop up lights, active aero, automatic windows, etc.) also things like sound deadening material and sterio could be eliminated, there is a lot of ways to reduce weight, most come at the cost of comfort either to you or your wallet, but i would be willing to sacrifice a little of each for a lighter car. then again, i said the price i would expect would be in the $65k range... a good deal more than any stock 3/S has been sold for.

what i mean to get at is that it would not be very hard at all, you would just need to make sacrifices.

I say in about 5-8 years from now, a 3500GT, Supra, 380Z, and maybe a RX-9 (or faster RX-8) should be made, all w/ twin-turbos, and somewhere in the 400-430 HP range. If I remember right the Mustang's will be in that range around then, it would be some good competition.

im all for it but mitsubishi would have to be very careful not to gay it out. I still dont know what theyre thinking with the current gen eclipse. YUCK how could you follow up the legend that the 2nd gen was with something that looks like it should have pontiac badges?

Re: Bring Back the 3000Gt?

Im for it as well, but if its gonna look bad like the new eclipses then that wouldnt be good but if they stick to the same body lines, but a newer look, it shouldnt be too bad

I'm sorry to bring back an old thread

But I think the future of the 3000GT, if there is any, might just lye in this concept.

The think is most great sports cars cost mucho denero when their concepts are initially concieved. The question is how much are you going to bring it down through mass production. Plus it is not like Mitsubishi will take every feature from that concept, I am mostly counting on them implementing that hybrid AWD technology.

Plus price is not as much of an issue when the sports car you trying to bring back was marketed as a 80k, quasi Porsche , semi or full exotic (your opintion.)

3/S's were marketed at 63k MAX and that was for the Spyders.

also the new eclipse is being based largely off that design I've heard. so it'll prolly end up costing about 25-35k.

Re: Bring Back the 3000Gt?

Thats the eclipse concept, it even says so right at the top of the page. Front 3.8 V6 and a rear electric engine, not designed to help fuel economy as much as it acts like a "turbo" and gets a nice liittle boost of power over a certain rpm.

i was just about to say the same thing. damn, just when you thought the eclipse couldn't look any worse after the 3rd gen, mitsu gays it up a little more. that thing, the pt cruser, and the miata need to have a slap fight to determine once and for all what the gayest car in the universe is.
